Which University Has A Pre-med Major Like Penn State?????

WHICH UNIVERSITY HAS A MAJOR CALLED PRE-MED LIKE PENN STATE? THANKS.

Penn State has an actual major called "Premed major"? I thought that was frowned upon by medical schools. I mean, all you need to do is take the pre-reqs and you are finished with the pre-med stuff. Does that constitute the major?

yea Penn State does have a pre-med major and majority of their students get into medical school.

They might get into a medical school, but adcoms frown on curricula such as those in general I feel. If you read any of their pamphlets, med schools talk about a well-rounded class with multiple majors represented. The last thing they want is someone who majored in the basic requirements. If you are going to do a premed major, at least do a real major in addition to it. You will be much better off.

I really dont think a premed major gives you any advantages in the process, you will look like every other applicant. In fact, I think its a serious disadvantage.

The other problem with a pre-med major is that there is still a chance you will not get accepted into med school and there isn't a big job market for people who's major is just pre-med.

LOL, sorry if I implied the contrary. 🙄 Anyway, what I meant to get across is along the lines of what Gleevac said. I just think a pre-med major is a bit disingenuous. I mean, what if you don't get into medical school, what does a person do with a premed major?

so what classes except the pre-med pre-reqs does one have to take as a pre-med major? i'm guessing upper-div bio, spanish (???), but what else? how is it different from being a bio major?

UCSD has a major called pre-medical bioengineering

I have a friend in the Penn State program, and from the looks of it they take a foreign language, biochem, pchem, english, and just about anything they want. He told me that his classes are around half science and half non-science classes.

this is exactly what my biochem majors friends are taking, except the foreign language, which is not a requirement for them.

UCSC is starting a premed major this year, it's the same as their molecular, cell, and developmental biology, except the students have to take spanish and do clinical work to graduate. so a pre-med major is your regular major with the word "bio" in it but a little less electives, but still the same ratio or science/non-science classes. this is just what the majority of pre-meds are doing anyway...

columbia does. we have it so you can have a pre-med concentration and basically requirments are stripped down for everything else.

Thanks for the info. I actually thought that a pre-med major would be more beneficial. Do you think it is difficult to major in Biology and minor in Spanish and Philosophy? Thanks.
