Would you rather work as a Pharmacy Tech at a really busy Pharmacy, like Walgreens, where you feel stressed out and miserable but with good pay or at a local, family owned grocery store with a pharmacy that's not as busy as a Walgreens but with less pay?

The one without a drive through.

WAG will give you baptism by fire. If you can hang there, you can do anything.

Grocery store for sanity in the long run though.

Stores like Walgreens dont pay you alot to start off with anyways. Go with the family owned one. Less stressful to work at.

I'd work at Walgreens if the girls are really hot.

Work at the slowest pharmacy possible. Busy pharmacies SUCK really bad..

Who cares about the pay. You are just there to get experience.

Both are low pay, go with the no drive-thru one.

Drive thru in pharmacy = hell

That is one of the main reasons I left Walgreens. That thing was going to be the death of me.

I chose Walgreen's initially, and this was a 700+ a day store. Super busy, but the days just flew by, no chance for boredom.

While taking classes, a store like this would be impossible though, but I was lucky to find a Walgreen's that averaged about 50 scripts a day and had extra hours to give out (did not last long, but I rode that gravy train as long as possible). This gave me the opportunity to get paid to study, at least for the semester or so that the hours were available.

The point is, busy stores aren't necessarily a bad thing if the work flow is handled properly with good techs and pharmacists. However, I'll take boredom any day over stress, so I'd go for the easy job with less pay. Plus, wasn't there a study that said no matter what you're paid, you won't be happy working at a place you hate?

Good luck.

I'm asking this question because I currently work at an extremely busy, 24 Hour, Walgreens Pharmacy and there is a Pharmacy Tech job opening at a locally based grocery store called Dierbergs. I don't know if I should leave Walgreens for the grocery store?

It really depends on the location though. The one I went to for a rotation was really slow and the drive-thru was definitely doable and not that stressful.

I would pick slow and low any day of the week no matter if there was a drive thru. I worked for a pharmacy before school which does on average 150 scripts per day, so it was very laxed and you get to actually listen to your customers and give them more of the one on one time they deserve. I was lucky to get transfered to a similar volume store once in school.

If it's a decision between $8 and $10, I'd work the slow one and take the $8. If it's something like $7 and $11, I'll take the $11 and work at the busier pharmacy...

When it is just one pharmacist and one to two technicians at best, trust me, it is hell in a handbasket. You have to be popping Xanax all day to work an 8 hour shift in a understaffed drive through pharmacy that does 250+ scrips a day.

The difference between the pay is $7.50 at the grocery store and $9.50 at Walgreens.

Family owned grocery store. It really really sucks when the pharmacy is busy - ALWAYS understaffed, customers unhappy, people on hold, it gets so bad and then the customer threatens to go to another pharmacy if their prescription is not filled fast. Doesn't always happen at the private pharmacy I work at, but when it does, oh my do things get crazy.

Less pay all the way!

But if you do work at a busy store, you will appreciate other jobs you have in the future more.
Plus if you are crazy and do end up liking it for some reason, you will be in a good position to make lots of money as a pharmacist in the future.

I did my internship at Wags, hated every second of it, but it makes me realize I'm lucky to have my job now, even if it's not the perfect position. 🙂

I would definitely take the less stressful position over the other while I was in school.

Amen, brother. A rotation at CVS was enough to make me appreciate my other sites even more.

I'd take the less pay and family-owned pharmacy. I can only imagine how going back to the high-stress job day after day would affect my attitude/mood outside of work... and I just can't have that haha.

I'd rather stay busy. I currently work at Wal-Mart right now because I don't like drive-thru's. Some of our floating pharmacist can't even handle the number of customers we get. I remember at one point when I volunteered to work a 9 am to 9 pm shift, the two floating pharmacist would have about 100 scripts to four point and 100+ to visual verify. I think we ended up filling about 897 scripts that day.

Stay busy! Time flies by quick as well.
