I havent taken the DAT yet but I hear the white board is bogus, in that it is hard to erase, leaving black streaks everywhere. This girl told me people in her testing center had to resort to spitting on the white board to get a solid erase.

Did you practice using a white board while studying to become acclimated? Or, is the girl I spoke with just making excuses for her getting a 17?

Yes. its crappy. I spit on my board last year. I didn't have to this year. though. as I didn't get as many questions that needed the board as last year.

Depends on how much you use it. At the very end of my test it was kind of a pain to erase, but for the most part, it wasn't that bad. I feel like if you use it for nearly every question, you may have an issue with it. I just really didn't use it a great deal I guess.

ewwwww????? spitting on the boards?!!? what!! wow i wouldve never even thought to do that! sickk
my "whiteboards" were actually yellow haha and they were difficult to erase on but i was so frantic, it didnt really matter. i mean i was pushin the eraser hard but it was nbd really.
& i got 2 white boards/2 pens. 1 eraser

You can ask for new white boards and new markers. If they don't give you new ones you can demand new ones from a brand new pack.

When they ask you: "Please check your markers and whiteboard to make sure they are ok" - Make sure they are ok and up to your standards. You don't want to be dealt crappy material for the test you just paid hundreds of dollars for. Plus prometric gets paid like 50-75$ per test. They can at least afford new markers for every DAT test taker that walks through their doors.

Keep practicing with whiteboards/markers for your practice exams because it is a totally different feel than regular pencil/paper.

They gave me permanent markers with the boards. You can ask for new ones at any time. Just bring the full ones with you, they will confiscate them back and give you fresh ones!

when i was testing out my markers and eraser before i went in the testing room, one of the workers at the testing center actually suggested that i use tissues instead of the markers. so i grabbed a bunch of tissues and used those instead of the eraser. although using the tissues on the laminated sheet still wasn't the same feel as using a whiteboard back at home, the tissues sure were better than that crappy eraser!

the eraser isn't bad if you press down hard and erase. it will remove everything.

if you think ur just gonna place it on the laminated sheet (by the way, its a laminated sheet, not a "white board") and without any forceful pressure down, it won't erase much.

in the stress of the test, you will be erasing hard and fast, you won't even know your doing it. I had no trouble with the eraser. But then again, I am a guy, so maybe the ladies will have a harder time with this.

I went to staples and lamented a piece of paper and have been using expo markers on it at home to practice since day one. i do all my work on it. Its hard as hell to erase the "board" if you use the eraser conventionally. The trick is to actual use the edge of the eraser. So hold it on like a 40 degree angle and only erase with the edge. That works much better. Its still doesnt erase as easily as it would on a board, but it gets the job done and gets it done much faster. I suggest you practice using the lamenated paper/expo markers at home because at first i rememeber it was weird, now im perfectly fine with it. The last thing you want on test day is something else to annoy you.

This is genius!😍

Another idea...has anyone thought of calling up Prometric and getting their specifications for the white boards/ markers/ erasers they use? Perhaps the boards/ markers/ ersasers are different at each Prometric?

I might call mine and ask them how I get the brand names of the board/ markers/ erasers I will be using and just purchase what they will give me.

I have a classmate you took the DAT a few months ago and complained but for opposite reasons on this thread. He was given two laminated sheets that erased too easily. He complained that while he wrote, his hand would inadvertently erase writing/work that was already on the laminated sheet to which he needed to refer back on skipped questions.

I guess this scenario is probably better than having to deal with spending extra seconds trying to erase or needing to exchange for a new board/sheet.

I just took the DAT this last Friday, and I had two laminated pieces of yellow 8.5x11 paper that had a light grid on it (double sided). The EXPO pens were small like a pen, and erased very easy. I would agree that they erased almost too easily.
