Aren't you jumping the gun a little bit if you're also worried about what to wear to orientation?

lol, I see what you might be thinking... but I'm not a picky person at all, I just don't want to look out of place with what I wear. My concern is probably as a result of a lack of participation in these types of ceremonies, that's all. If it were up to me, I'd go with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt ;) :D

Let's see, what looks like the right thing to wear underneath a white coat....oh that's right, a shirt and tie! ;)

...and a nice pair of slacks, or cut-off jean shorts.

You're not jumping the gun... its just nice to know these kinds of things ahead of time. :)

I think most of the guys wore dress shirts with ties and nice dress pants. That bright white coat can make just about anything look good. Just don't wear a white shirt under it that isn't as crisp white as the coat.

What is the white coat ceremony for? And, for what school?

For the school I'll be heading, the white coat ceremony will start at the beginning of the first professional year (3rd year). And I'm pretty sure that all pharmacy/medical schools have a white coat ceremony; I think.

Midwestern will do it sometime the first quarter I believe. You all show up, walk up to the podium, they put a white coat on you (that didn't fit in my case, good measuring), and then you smile and sit down. It is mandatory, and some sort of welcome into the profession, blah, blah, blah. The teachers make a big deal out of it, the students get babysitters and change work schedules to attend since they have to do so.

Good luck to you as you start. School isn't near as bad as they will try to make you think during the three days of orientation. They make it sound harder than it is. Just get a strict study schedule, stick with it and you will be fine. Also, orientation is very long and boring. They could put it in one day but they drag it out. I would suggest taking something to read, or make sure you have some video games on your pocket pc. The first year went real fast for me, it will fly by before you know it. Good luck.

Thanks for the info/advice! All of you P2s, etc from Glendale have been very helpful. :)

So they didn't tell you to go try on sizes beforehand to avoid getting a white coat too small/large? That's what they did for my class.

They half-assedly measured us during our single-file boot-camp-like processing in orientation.

Yes, and the worst part of it was the librarian's spiel... she just wouldn't shut up. Gablet or any other incoming P1's... I need one of you to check your watch at the beginning and end of her talk, to see just how long she takes. (hopefully less than last year.) :)

That's odd. For my class, they told us all to go down to like the registrar's office (or some other office...I don't remember exactly) and try on the different sizes and we wrote down which one fit best. I wonder why they didn't continue to do that.

One of just many changes taking place under the new regime.

I'll try to remember. :)

They just asked me/us for my waist size.

20 mins, not too bad. She basically told us not to eat in the library and brought in example of appropriate drinking containers. She didn't seem to go on forever, just went over the various references in the library.

We got our white coats on the very first day of orientation in the P1 year. We ordered our coats over the summer.
