Who are student interviewers?

They're usually M3/M4 students, but some M2 students can do it too. I had a subpar experience with a M2 student interviewer at one school--ze was not very friendly. But, my friends had great experiences interviewing with different student interviewers elsewhere. The person I interviewed with told me they had to apply for the position and were voted on by classmates to take on this responsibility. So yes, I would assume they are extensively trained in this.

Students volunteer for working with Admissions. They do get training, especially on what questions NOT to ask, as well as the scoring/evaluation rubric.

Usually it's upperclassmen, sometimes M2 (like at my school). There is a formal training process. I can speak firsthand that it is not perfect, having previously interviewed at a school with a really poorly prepared student interviewer.

I've had M1, M3 and M4. They volunteer for it so they are usually outgoing people. It is a little weird having someone your own age as your judge though

M1 seems a bit premature. But I don't think age has to do with it. A 24 year old M3 interviewing a 24 year old applicant, for example, it perfectly fine. An M3 has enough clinical exposure and experience to evaluate an applicant.

I recently had an M1 who was so woefully unprepared it wasn't even funny. He was nice and all, but was awkward and had no idea what he was doing. Maybe I am a bit salty as I was just WL there, though...

The M1 said their job as described by admissions was "report back to us whether this seems like someone you'd be excited to work with in your small group". I don't think they were supposed to assess us as future doctors.

Have you had such an interview? It just felt odd having someone that could have been my class mate in college asking questions like "what would you change in healthcare today"? My room mate said it was a little bizarre for him too but we might just be weird about it haha
