Who Else Feels Crappy?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Anyone who reads this thread, will see that you put words in my mouth (see part in red): http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=1033046

You're wasting my time. I'm done talking with you.

I was going to let this die, but the way you keep making me seem like the "bad guy" in this conversation is appalling. I was defending another poster that you called weak and unethical for no legitimate reason. I have no reason to attack you and wasn't doing so.

No one is spreading rumors about you I have no clue where you are getting that - and this comes from someone who has had rumors actually spread about her

In your original post you talk about taking responsibility - while that is true there is only so much we can control as your experience shows.

Yes you had a craptastic day - yes it was the worse day of your life

Absolutely no one is attacking you and perhaps all the other stress you are dealing with is spilling over and coloring the way you view thing which is completely understandable and human

Take a day do something just for you then come back with fresh eyes and I think you will see that no one is being malicious

I am still done with this discussion.

(You can go back to 9/29 at 7:36 and read the part you missed, as well as, the one before it. 7:36 is Eastern Standard Time.)

Two days - two days until my freshman daughter wanders off to her first homecoming with a senior
I am in need of a margarita, a padded room or soft restraints - or a combo of all three

Inhale - serenity now - exhale

I survived anatomy - this can not be as bad , right?!?!?!?!

Have you given her "the talk"? Or emphasized that if she's going to do something with this senior, she better use protection? Or had the, "if you say no to his advances & he continues to try, he doesn't respect you," talk? There are so many things I wish my parents told me when I was 15.

I won't respond to this thread anymore as obviously everyone has better things to do, but I just wanted to say that I didn't mean to upset anyone, all of my intentions were good, and I apologize if you were offended Gauss! Just trying to offer some friendly advice to somebody who I thought may have benefitted from it, just as I would hope people would do for me. Apparently you didn't need it, and whether it was because of a post that didn't reflect the situation or my misinterpretation of that post is irrelevant.

I'm a really friendly person, I really am 🙂 I wish you all the best, Gauss.

Or if he touches you in any way you don't approve of to knee him in the groin 😀

^ That definitely works. Could try to slap him first as a warning & then do damage to the scrotum if he doesn't understand you meant business, not pleasure.

Yep we have had numerous talks about no means no and if you are going to do donething be careful

We even had the do not trust drinks handed to you by strangers or dates talk

And we have had the call us at the first sign of any drug or alcohol talk

He is a good kid.
This is her first date and I am in full mommy freak out mode

(And she holds a purple belt in karate - I think we are good. 😉. )

Walked out of a Chem midterm feeling as though I rocked that multiple choice test. Which I did. But not having used a scantron since my high school years I just found out that in my infinite wisdom I accidentally skipped a line. Yes, meaning everything below that line was wrong. Luckily it was very close to the end of the exam so I didn't end up failing, but it did put me just below average, which is C+ territory! Luckily we get to drop an exam, but I was hoping to use my drop for one where I just didn't do too well...this was the stuff I knew!

Oh well. Can't change it. Might as well laugh at myself and never make that mistake again. Ever. Pressure's on for the rest of the semester though!

Me=30year old Non-Trad that got the evil medicine bug. Going into the 3rd year of chasing this pipe dream and feeling the full effects of its many sacrifices.

I work Night shift at a printing company full-full time and have been shadowing an Ortho doc while trying to raise my family (3 yr old and wife).

1.) Wife and I are interested in having a second child. We are terrified of it because of how bad the first birth went (almost lost both of them) and how busy I will be in the next 2 years(or 10 years / lifetime realistically). Thoughts or Inspiration of how the hell you did it would be helpful here?

2.) How much EC work do Non-Trad's really need? (I work Full-Full time and it has been hard to just sneak in the hours of shadowing).

3.) My wife has a job she loves, Daughter is starting to build friendships and a routine. How resilient are children to moving every 4 years? My wife has been and continues to say she will do whatever it takes and support me in all of my decisions, but I feel like this is selfish sometimes...(Any personal experiences here would be great as well)

4.)GRRRR EVIL MEDICINE BUG!!!:barf:

Sincerely
Guy trying to do it all at once..and feeling cranky tonight 😕:bang:

I'm twenty-seven, I've been working a dead end labor job for the past five years (which may disappear over the next three months due to cut-backs and re-structuring), I have a ton of things that regret not doing, I live in my parent's basement with my girlfriend, I drive a rust-bucket budget beater, I don't own a house - nor can I afford one, my hearing is terrible, I have a huge work-load for my MA program, and I get older everyday.

However, I'm happy. And you should be too. 🙂

You'll be busy, but not so busy you can't have kids. I don't think there ever can be a perfect time to have a kid, so you might as well do it now.

Work is an EC. You'll want something like 20 hours of shadowing. You can probably get away with less if you have other clinical experience. Adcoms need to see that you know what you're getting into when you say you want to work in a medical field.

I was a military brat and I moved around a lot growing up. It never really bothered me. I think that no matter what you do, your children will grow up thinking it is perfectly normal. I know kids who spent their entire lives growing up on a ship full of people from 50 or so different countries and they seem to be just fine.

4.)GRRRR EVIL MEDICINE BUG!!!:barf:

Sorry, I can't help you with that. Once the medicine bug bites there is no known cure. All treatments are merely palliative, though you will probably have to live with some of the symptoms all your life.

Thanks for the advice, I do appreciate it. Hopefully plasticity works to my benefit through this long journey : )

So, True!

what kind of puppy?

The all kinds of cute kind. She's a rescue, they think she's a redbone coonhound mix.

Adorable! I hope they spay goes well, and she's up and at 'em again soon! It's always so hard with the pups; with a person you an explain that they're going to have surgery and they will feel uncomfortable after but it will get better with time. The dog doesn't know what the heck's going on, only that something is definitely not right.

Anyway, give her an extra pat from her SDN admirers 🙂

Can you believe some idiot threw her out of a car? 😡 She was probably only about 5-6 weeks old at the time and had to get pins put in to fix the break in her leg.

Horrible story, but now she's loved bunches and spoiled rotten. 😍

Cigar Sickness...

Was planning on baking a cake and making a nice dinner for my wife since she was at work. Thought I would sit outside enjoying the weather, read, and finish a good cigar before starting. Next thing I know, I'm flat on my back, diaphoretic, and head spinning like a hangover. She comes home and has a good laugh at my expense

(And I'm waiting on my ACOM interview results and praying for more interviews, but trying REALLY hard to not be neurotic about that)

Sympathize. My issue with cigars is that I tend to have alcohol in me to want to smoke, and then of course I feel the need for whiskey or brandy while smoking. So not only do i get a cigar hangover, it's compounded by the booze. Best to avoid them in general...

what seems to be the hold up? heavy course load? difficulty level? just the temporary blahs that last a day or two?

No, light course load actually, heavy financial burden at the moment, sick of working nights, ready to be done with my masters, some other crap, and burnout basically.

My day has been crappy b/c I'm trying to prep for a 100 on my Bio exam so I can bring my test average up to an A. Also, I'm carrying a mid-level A in my Bio Lab, but from what I've been told Bio Lab is results-oriented vs. something like Chem Lab where its expected that you won't get measurements totally correct (and I know I haven't gotten some measurements correct etc.). Plus, trying to figure out whether to go back full-time & finish Fall 2016 or continue non-trad route & be projected to finish Fall/Spring 2019.

But hey, I'm just starting back into this, while it appears the majority of you are deep into knocking out prereq's/Master's. So I guess I don't have that much to be neurotic about.

Not trying to poop in your pudding, but didn't apollo 1 go up in flames?

I just asked for the badge and attached a pic of my transcript. Then I was asked a question on one of Maxwells equations in differential form.

I think you should be able to put that you have a rocket scientist badge on your AMCAS 😎

In other news, I still hate SAS. It's always something little I'm missing that I can't get my darn program to work right and it's frustrating spending 45 minutes to realize there's just one tiny thing wrong, then whoosh, it all works.

But this time I can't figure out what the heck the problem is and I'm stuck and I need to get this darn assignment done tonight. 😡

So if anyone is a master at SAS statistical analysis programming, I'm all ears.

Can't help you with SAS but after about 20 years in the software industry I can strongly relate to this. Technologies have changed significantly but even nowdays most of my time goes towards making some little detail work as expected because something else is not exactly as it was supposed to be or was documented to be or whatever... It is infuriating how much time I've wasted on silliness like this.

Hopefully, as an attending, there will be med students to deal with the annoying part of the work. :meanie:

Yeah, and our grad program leadership has admitted this is probably one of the most user unfriendly programs available, but if you can use this you can learn pretty much anything else, so that's why they have us use it.

I have an idea what the problem sorta is, just can't figure out how to fix it.

Here is a coincidence that made me smile - you have 1793 posts and I have 1973. Alas, once I point it out - it's gone.

Good luck making it work. I have my own share of things to finish and as it would usually happens, they all need to be done by the end of this week. Which leaves me the weekend for secondaries, etc. Ugh...

Physics/engineering majors - I think there is some sort of quiz or approval process. I'd love to know the details myself. 😎

too much work! lol. maybe later...

Man I'm working on a cigar hangover now, got a rocky Patel maduro on the back deck, it is strong!

Awesome. Switched to rye whiskey when the keg ran out. Whistle Pig is in order.

I hate traffic - why can no one seem to coordinate the three lights within five blocks that make what should be a 10 minute drive through a 30 minute endeavor

Agggghhhh

At least you don't have to deal with draw bridges, I had a record of three to wait for a few days ago. 😡

How was homecoming?

Ok I give you the win with the drawbridges - yuck

It went okay. We all survived . A good time was had . Mommy did not turn into a stalker or freak out too much. Thanks for asking 🙂

Mine lasted about an hour. I enjoyed the Perdomo 20th anniversary Epicure (5x56, it was much bigger that what I usually smoke), gotta smoke it slower next time.

Annnnd Rejected from ACOM- found out yesterday-still trying to process it and I'm going to call on Monday to get some feedback.

I just keep telling myself I have 3-Allo and 6 Osteo apps still out and it's early yet.

Replaced 3 tires in 3 weeks. Had the flu. Wife's A/C in her car doesn't work. Sold a book on amazon that someone is disputing the condition. You'd think if I was selling a $100+ book for $25 and described it as having highlights and markings they wouldn't complain about highlights and markings in the book when they got it. I'm ready for this month to be over already.

You must try the following cigar.

Liga Privada No. 9
Or
Liga Privada T52

If you can find them they are the best I have ever had. The No.9 is much better than the T52, but they are close in quality.:=|:-):
