Who else loves studying

I went from skipping one class a week in the first year to attending one class a week by the end of my second year.

It was well worth it. I learned the same stuff, got the same grades, and had loads more free time. I just wish I hadn't been so anal about going to class from the get go and the first year woulda been waaaay better!

Great reply. One class a week sounds excellent but risky. It's a tough decision especially since I just began classes. Does anyone else agree that one class a week is the way to go?

It all depends on your individual study style.. if you can do it effectivley without lecture then go for it..if not you are risking it. I missed my first 2 lectures today, but that was based on the individual prof. I can learn more from his notes than his quiet monotone lecture where I spend more time fighting to stay awake than listining to what he has to say..

From talking to second years at COMP it depends a lot on the lecturer and the individual person. Many of them have said that when the exams start coming, you have to start skipping class to study. I haven't skipped a class yet, which is a big change from undergrad where I would go for weeks without attending class. But, of course, med school is a different beast. I'm waiting until after the first exam to decide where I learn better.

I guess there's many factors in determining if one should skip lecture or not. So far, I can't imagine skipping lectures because listening to the professors speak helps me understanding the notes better. But we'll have to wait and see.

It does sound crazy at first, but I did the same thing.

When I was a grad student I was pretty bad about attending lectures but still managed good grades. But I had all of the same instructors for undergrad so I had a feel for them. Right now I'm to unfamilliar with with my new instructors to try and skip class. But I'm sure by second year I'll be back to my old ways.
I still need to find a nice coffee house or B&N to study at though.

for those of you that do miss the majority of classes..what schools do you attened and how far along are you?
