Who else thinks that they need a miracle to get into pharm school?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
make that four!!!!!!!!

Anything and everything is possible, but i bet some hard work and perseverance will be able to replace a miracle if you all are up to it.

oh wow you guys all from Cali? I've not even applied yet, as of right now I'm still doing pre-req and getting my Bachelors.

I'm just baseing on my GPA sucks with no prior exp or anything.....
anyways, I heard out-of-state is easier then schools in CA
but being out-of-state it would be more expensive for tuition huh?

for public schools. yes.

Private it's the same..

I feel like I need a miracle too but I'm hoping for the best.. 🙂

Hey, c'mon, a chain of events occurred that got *me* got into pharmacy school.

That's more miracles right there than appear in the Bible, the Koran, the Veda, plus Roman, Greek, and Nordic Literature combined times 24.

I need a miracle too!! And I'm not from Cali....🙁

I think I need miracle too even though I have a promising GPA.

Came to the US four years ago. Always get nervous when it comes to interview thing.

I live in CA. My husband and I want to stay in CA. I have no choice, but applying to CA pharm schools. It is kind of tough.

It really is sad when you feel like you need a miracle when you get an 82 on your PCAT (87 on chem/math/reading, but 53 on verbal), and a 3.3. What is the world coming to?!

i have a decent GPA but, i'm from CA too and will be applying to CA schools ... so i'll need a miracle too!

post your stats guys...some people with 3.5's are over-paranoid and think they need miracles to get in..

my cGPA is 3.08. science = 3.47. no PCAT (yet).

I have a cum GPA of 3.2 and a science GPA of 3.0 no PCAT yet.

Overall 3.8
Science 4.0
No PCAT
My problem is the interview part. I got really nervous and could not speak up. Sometimes, I just hate myself being like that.
I came to the US 4 years ago. I need to improve my English. I do not have any problem understand my instructors. However, I am have problem expressing my thought.

😱 did you apply last year? and do you have a bachelors?

wow, if you guys have those stats and are worrying, then maybe i should just quit right now and forget about sending my supplementals. i have a 2.7 science GPA (maybe a 2.8), with a 3.1 cumulative and an 89 pcat. for me personally, it won't take a miracle, but being a person who believes in the Lord, it will take prayer and faith. if it is meant to be, God will make a way for me to get into this profession. i know i have the intelligence, poise, professionalism, and the heart.

omg superbug shouldn't even be anywhere NEAR this thread...

not sure if you go to a university here or not...but go to their career center and set up mock-interview appointments.
also, try and get someone (other than your friends) to mock-interview you so you don't get so nervous.
the nervousness is probably what clouded your expression of thought

I have completed my prerequisite courses here in the US.
Thanks for your advice. I think it is a good idea that I should set up mock-interview appointments.

😱 did you apply last year? and do you have a bachelors?
I hold an oversea bachelor. I had it evaluated. Even though UCSD and UCSF accept oversea bachelors, but I do not think I have a good standing to these schools.

I applied to UCSD, they rejected my application.

I do not have good EC, but I have volunteered at some hospitals.

I think Touro will not have any problem with applicants who are holding oversea bachelors as long as they are evaluated. I do not know about Western.

I am going to apply to Touro, Western, UCSD, UCSF. Even though UCSD rejected my application last year, I still want to take another shot.

I still need to take biochemistry I and II to fulfill the prerequisites required by Western.

oh *&$#....
i didn't know western requires an entire year of biochem. i literally don't have the time to take it next year...i guess i won't apply there. if i don't get in anywhere for 08 i'll have to take the full year of biochem and apply there for 09.

this just keeps getting better and better...🙄

edit: superbug you scared the crap out of me...haha. western will allow one semester of biochem PLUS one semester of molecular biology...or two semesters of biochem...either way

I have a 3.45 but no BS/BA. I def need a miracle to get accepted in CA. So I'm focusing on out of state schools. But, I haven't taken the pcat yet! I'll be taking it in less then a month!!😱

Here's my secret trick to overcoming nervousness...

"I'm a bad mother****er"

just internally recite the mantra when you feel ther qeasies coming.

omigod, i can't believe the stats on this thread, which aren't bad AT ALL, and you all are worrying about needing a miracle to get into pharmacy school. i have a much worse position right now with my gpa, i'm too ashamed to see it much less tell what it is. I feel like i'm gonna a miracle, and all God's prophets and angels come to earth to save me from the mess i'm in and open the pharmacy school doors for me.🙁

In california, we have 1800 apps for about 100 spots in schools. If you're mediocre like myself, i need some good luck at least. Maybe not a miracle, but great great luck.

I might need a miracle to get into a California PharmD/MBA program 😎

i hear u...i m also in the same situation...

Yeah, I agree with you about the biochem requirement. Have you ever taken molecular biology? A friend of mine told me that molecular biology is harder than biochem. Also, if you take one year of biochem, you do not have to buy another book.

I will take biochem I in Fall, but I am reading the first several chapters of the book right now. I do not like it at all (need to memorize a lot of stuff). I like ochem better.

Good luck!

i took molecular biology....i got an A in it because i enjoyed it very much. i haven't taken biochem yet so i can't judge

i would think biochem would be harder though..i'm pretty excited about taking biochem because it blends what we've learned in our bio classes with that of our chemistry classes.

I've been very nervous lately. I boosted my pharmacy designations from like 5 up to 11 because I want to be sure I get in somewhere. :scared:

what do ya mean by pharmacy designation?

I'm in the same boat with you guys! I'm from CA too and it does seem impossible... sometimes I feel so sad because like many of you I feel that I would make a great phramcist and could contribute to the career if given the opportunity to... the only thing that is holding me back is my undergrad stats =(

just make sure you get all your good qualities across in your personal statement 🙂. a good personal statement with ok stats that exudes professionalism and passion is worth more to me than a bad personal statement with good stats.

This is one of the most productive comments that I have seen thus far. Thanks!

I am in the same boat as you

I'm in the same boat as you tooo!!!!!
and I WANNA GET OFF THIS BOAT

TITANIC HERE I COME!!

I too want to get off the boat, but only into a nicer boat that takes me to the land. Not falling into the ocean where all the sharks may be (discovery channel shark week, lol).

I have a 55 pcat composite 68 chemistry and probably GPA's of 3.1 composite and 3.0 chemistry. Am I S.O.L.?

O wow dude, my GPA is below yours =/
but i have 2 more years about to raise it to hopefully 3.2 or so
was the PCAT really hard?

I would say that things don't look so good for you.....

HOWEVER---- you need to keep in mind that the people posting here on SDN generally have higher GPAs and PCAT scores than the general applicant pool; not every applicant plays around here on SDN. Omnione posted a great attachment detailing the average PCAT scores and the range of scores for those accepted this past cycle; you should check that out.

I think your best bet is to take a good hard look at your GPA--- did your early schooling bring it down, and your more recent classes were As and Bs? That upward trend could be enough to put you onto a list of accepted students. Also, don't forget about the interview. Stats are just a way to get your foot in the door for the interview.... you need to absolutely blow them away at the interview.

I think I'm pretty much screwed to. Especially since I have to overload in the spring to have most of the pre-reqs done and some that I do have done are C's and C-'s. But I've meade alternate plans just in case 🙂

They won't let us at our school (cal poly Pomona) last I checked. They said the 2 courses overlapped here and that we had to take the full year of biochem😕

not sure what you mean, jack

the pharm schools decide what pre-reqs/combinations of pre-reqs are valid

I called Western. They said that literally for our school, Cal Poly, we had to have 3 quarters of biochem no substitutions.
They say our molecular bio overlaps with our biochem.

^are you serious? that SUCKS!! isn't that a good thing that the molecular bio and biochem overlap???
why would they make that exception just for cal poly? i think that's unfair!
