I was just wondering if any of you guys applying to Davis is doing the optional supplementals.. is it all that necessary?

You only do them (one or multiple) if they apply to you/your situation. If the do, though, I think it's a good idea to do so. Gives you valuable additional space to let the adcom get to know you better. I did one of the supplementals last year.

They aren't necessary, hence being called "optional" supplementals.

The career diversity one is only applicable if you really want to go into one of the areas they highlight on the form, and the other is for disadvantaged applicants. If you don't fit one of these two criteria you should not fill them out. If you DO though, by all means, DO IT! But only if you really and truly do...they'll be able to tell.
 
one of my interests is lab animal medicine so i'm doing the career diversity one because i have a bunch of stuff to talk about. if you're not interested in any of the fields listed i'd skip it and leave your application be.

off hand how long should the career diversity essay be? the part about adding additional pages is scaring me. is it fine just to make it short, like a page max?
