Who Is On The Waiting List And Where

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am on the waitlist at Ferris State. I am #221, it is at 216 right now.
*Please Lord, let me into Pharmacy school*

I am on the alternate list at Mercer which is not moving and South which will not return any emails. I am still holding out for a miracle.

I'm on Creighton's web-based pathway alternate list. But it is very unlikely I'll make it this round. I would think that most people who apply for web-based, really want web-based, so I don't expect anyone to reject.

Always next year, right? :scared:

hey everyone, I'm a newbie here 🙂 I'm on the list at UGA, but it's not looking too good for this year... unfortunately, that's the only school I applied to this year, but I'm working on that for next year!

It's nice to know I'm not the only one praying for a miracle. I'm on the Alternate list for UMKC and am currently number 14 from 47 originally. I think my miracles are up since I haven't moved any since the beginning of this month. So close yet so far. :scared:

My husband and I are both finishing up our pre-req's to apply for fall '06, and we're planning on applying to South and Mercer, among others... so, I was just wondering if you could share any insight on either of those schools... which would you rather go to? how do you feel about South's 3-year program? would you mind sharing any of your info. as far as GPA or PCAT, etc. just for comparision sake (if not, that's cool, I know I asked a personal question, but I couldn't help myself). I'm pretty anxious about the whole admissions process, since we've both got to get into the same school and all.

By the way, does anybody know any married couples that have gotten into school together? I wonder if admissions will consider it as any kind of factor at all or not....

Any info. would be great. thanks

I am impressed with both Mercer and South for different reasons. I above all want to go to Mercer because they make me feel like their school is a family and they care about each student like that. Both schools have rolling admissions which means that (unless you get waitlisted like me) you find out pretty quick about your admissions decision. I really like South mainly because of the 3 yr program. I have total confidence that it is a great program. I also love their new building. In comparison to Mercer it is still small but it is still appealing. As far as better student relations, Mercer has this in the bag. In the middle of South's admissions process this past cycle the assoc dean of admissions left for reasons I don't know, but at that point all communications came to a sudden stop. In fact, in the past 5 months I have not had a single email returned. However, at Mercer, when I email Jordana she returns my email in like 5 minutes (no joke).

I won't post the specifics, but I will tell you that I am average. Both my GPA and PCAT are not top 1 % like most people who post. I do have 5 yrs experience in a indep. retail pharmacy and like 5 pharmacists called Mercer personally for me. If I get in this year, the underdog would have won.

I am not sure about a married couple getting in together. I am married too (5 yrs). Let me give a little advice if you choose to apply to Campbell in NC. The professer who interviewed me used the fact that I was married against me during the entire interview. It was my fault for telling I was married, but three of the students in the interview with him were also married. In short, because the entire interview was a big insult, he asked me did I have any idea what pharmacy school would cost me, and I said "yes, I am well aware of this, and this is not my concern" and he said well maybe I should ask your husband because I sure he would like to know seeing that he would be having to pay your way through school. Needless to say I was shocked.

Good Luck

Good luck being married and tackling such a task! 👍 I interviewed at both Mercer and South. I was put on the waitlist at Mercer and accepted at South, where I will be attending. I liked both schools. I enjoyed my interview at South, it was very laid back. One of the most interesting parts was when we were able to eat pizza in the lounge and other students were in there. We were able to socialize and learn about school and professors we were interviewing with from them.

Mercer was good too. They are all very friendly and Jordana is excellent at her job. Both schools are nice, I do have to admit I like South's new building.. probably because it is new. I like the atmosphere of Savannah and South. The school is right off of a main road but it is still quiet and secluded. Mercer is secluded as well, but I have to admit I didn't feel as comfortable in Mercer's area (i.e. the other side of the bridge made me feel a little apprehensive personally because there were a lot of people walking around-I'm not sure how safe it is)

All in all I would go to either school. I do think the idea of the 3yr program is a good one and am happy I am able to do it. Whatever you do when you begin applying, do everything as early as you possibly can.

What if one of you gets into one school and the other gets into another? That seems really difficult to arrange but I'm sure you know what you're doing! 🙂 Best of luck!

Well, of course, we're worried about that happening (getting in at different places), but we're thinking that the best way to tackle that problem is to apply to several different places to give ourselves more chances. We're pretty equal as far as our GPA's go, but we haven't taken the pcat yet, so that will play a big role, I'm sure. We already both have bachelors degrees (mine in political science, his in business management), so maybe that will help, too. I'm really not letting myself believe that we won't get in together... but we'll deal with it if it does. We'd probably just go, and whichever one of us doesn't get in will reapply the next year.

People seemed kind of shocked or amazed that we've decided to do this together (or maybe they're just masking their doubt that it will work out for us), but I can't really understand why. We dated all through college, graduated, got married, and then decided to get our pre-req's and go to pharmacy school together. Most people seem to think that going to school with your spouse would be hard and put a strain on the relationship, but we've never really know any different, and we usually work well together and make a pretty good team. 😍 The main thing is getting into the same school. I think it'll be great in the end if we can just make that happen.

Thanks for your response and the info. on the schools! By the way, are you at all concerned about "burn-out" at a three-year school? I think it would be GREAT to get out a year early (South is my number one choice to go to), but I've talked to pharm. students at 4 year schools who worry that it would be too intense without a summer break and all. Have you talked to any of South's students to get their take on it?

Oh, and congratulations on getting in! 🙂

I hear that Wingate is a great school! 👍 Have a good day! 🙂

Congrats!!! 😀

hi xraided81 !! i am planning to apply for UOP for the Fall 06. Can you give me some tips as of the application process ? Thank you in advance. Please e-mail me at [email protected].

In case you cannot email me, here are some questions for you:

Did you apply early, like before August 1st for Fall 05?
Do you have a BS degree already?
What is your GPA?
How long did you volunteer in the pharmacy?

Thank you again! 🙂

Congratulations! You may have taken my spot =). I withdrew my acceptance for USC where I've been waitlisted forever. Nothing against UOP (they made a huge impression on me), but I needed to stay close to home for family reasons. Good luck!

HEY What school is UOP?
I have a ?. For the person who got in from the waitlist. I have been waitlisted since April as well, and already I think I have lost hope....but hearing you got in makes it different. Did you call them, frequently just to make sure transcripts were in, or that your name was mentioned, or did you just let it be. I was going to make a trip to both schools, because my family wants me to, but I would have nothing to ask them but about the waitlist. I think I would be annoying them, what do you think just let it be and wait?
Or make a trip up there.

Patience is a great virtue. I did not call or write to uop. I just simply waited. I had been on the middle of the waiting list since early april. I had a great faculty interview, and the faculty member pretty much guaranteed me admission. I was suprised i got put on the waiting list. I let him know i was on the waiting list, i dont know if he helped me get in or not, if he did i owe him greatly. I was already looking into other options, if i didnt get in.

As for me. I applied to every school in california and UNM. I only got 2 interviews at uop and unm. I graduated from UCSB with a BS in Chemistry last year. I took most of the pre/med pre pharm as part of my undergraduate major at ucsb. and i had to finish 6 prereqs last semester and right now in summer school finishing psych 101. I took a lot of extra classes i didnt need becasue almost every school has different pre-reqs. I graduated with about a 3.00 overally gpa, about 3.30 in the chemistry major. I have been working for Rite Aid as a clerk/tech for about a year and a half. I did a lot of extra-curricular activities which probably helped my application. I did research for UCSB chem dept 2 years, worked as a high school ta, and lots of community service. I also had contacts with some of the most respected math and chemistry professors at ucsb. I guess they are looking for a good all around applicant, because i am not a straight A student. It just depends on how much heart and desire you have.Oh yeah and most importantly your personal statement has a great impact. they use it to get a sense of how serious you are about pharmacy school. when i interviewed at unm the dean of pharmcy, pulled me off to the side and told me i had the most captivating personal statement out of all of last years applicants. I hope this helps , let me know if you got any more questions

Im actually goin g to reconstruct my personal statement. SHould i mention that this is going to be my more than once time applying. I am really determined to get in. i have had quite a bit of obstacles over some years, out of my control. i dont kow what to tell them. i mean pharmacy is pharmacy, how many people are really that passionate about "pharmacy". i need help with this statement i really want to make it good. my statement last year focused on how i got into the health field with a story that involved my grandmother, than it led me into getting into pharmacy and my experience in the different settings. kind of cheesy, huh....any advice would be great.
thanks

hi MayaRx, in your personal statement, it might be good to include how you felt about your volunteer/work experience in pharmacy...what you learned from it, how it helped you, or how you liked it...also talk about how community volunteer or others help shape who you are, like being mature or decisive...another things i wrote, i guess is about how my personality match with pharmacy....and yes, you can talk about how you are eager to go to this pharmacy school again.....because this is your 2nd time applying and because you really love the school and the program it offers....So you said you'd written a personal statement the last time you applied? unless you're writing on a different topic, then start on new ideas...but, however, you can add the same ideas you wrote from your last personal statement to your new one....For more additional stuffs, you can search in the Pre-pharm FAQ's.....you can always write out whatever comes in mind, until it fills up.......then correct it at the very end, by ask your teacher or tutor........that saves you from having a blank paper with no thoughts/ideas, which on the other hand might help link up your ideas.....remember this essay would help the Committe know more about who you are that your application dont have! hope it helps 🙂 good luck!
