Hey guys
I did research last academic year at the medical school associated with my undergrad institution. Since the lab I worked in was not run by a professor on the faculty (as its a med school), a professor of mine let me work under her name and talked to my lab tech/supervisor at my lab to ask about my performance & gave me the grade accordingly.

Who should I be getting a recommendation from? The lab tech/supervisor who was at the lab or my professor who corresponded with the lab & gave me the grade?

Thanks in advance!🙂

You could get it signed by both...often people will have someone who worked really close with them in lab write the letter and then have the person in charge (co-)sign it. If you have to choose between the two, go with the professor who gave you the grade, she was in charge of you and is a faculty member.

best of luck!

Every lab where funded research is conducted has a principal investigator who is a faculty member. This is the person who obtains the funding that covers the salaries of those who work in the lab, the tuition & stipends of the grad students in the lab, the stipends of the post-docs (until they get their own funding & become independent investigators themselves).

I think that it is far better to have a letter from someone who can speak about your conduct in the lab than someone who has only hearsay evidence of your performance.
