Only the maxillary and ethmoid sinuses are present at birth and they enlarge during the first decade of life.

The frontal and sphenoid sinuses only begin to appear at 5-6 years of age, and they do not become fully developed until adolescence.

That's why frontal sinusitis is uncommon during the first decade of life.
