You know, I'm a little nervous about going to interview, but I have to say after 5 years of hard work, dedication, and a lot of soul-searching, I am primarily excited to go visit some schools that have shown me some 😍.

Anyone else just thrilled to be interviewing? I know it's expensive, but it's such an exciting opportunity. Kind of like getting asked out on a first date. With the president's kid. A very expensive first date where he isn't paying 😉.

I know some of us grad students have waited for such a long time to be ready...here is the place to express how great it feels to be one step closer to your goal 🙂

I think my heart skips a beat every time I imagine visiting these schools 😛.

:: pure enthusiasm ::

I'm excited about having the opportunity to be considered for an acceptance. I'm terrified of the interview itself. I'm even more afraid of hearing their decision.

Same sentiments here

I had an interview last year that was nothing but ethical questions. They get you all mixed up in what you really believe.

All this time I never knew Pianola was a woman!?
Crazy. On SDN you learn something new every day.

Aww! That's actually part of what I'm excited about! I'll just explain my thought processes to ADCOMs in earnest, and if they see I'm being genuine, I imagine they won't take off points for not knowing the finer nuances of medical law. 🙂

You don't have to memorize a bioethics book to understand the basics of sympathy, understanding, being a good listener, etc. 🙂

It's the avatar, I guess.

I'm not a 50 year old balding guy. Promise 🙂

between being nervous and the way they structure their questions/demands, you will get confused. they'll get you to say something you don't believe in just in the way they pin you down and force you to make the wrong decision.

Yeah, you're a 20-something balding female pre-med!

By the way, I was totally stoked for my interview. I was a little nervous, but I know I'm really good at presenting myself. When the real thing came around, I hadn't had any sleep thanks to a 7-hour overnight drive to make it to Little Rock in time (read the bizarre interview thread for more details), and was way too tired to be nervous.

I've been excited for the past month, but now that I'm having my first interview in under 36 hours the excitement has pretty much given way to fear/nervousness.

actually I thought you were a middle-aged asian male with shoulder length hair who likes to scream and sing in horrendous tones while playing the piano like jet li. 🙂

Yay for all those people booking tickets right now! 🙂

Yeah, you're a 20-something balding female pre-med!

:wow: Yet another way I could distinguish myself for the ADCOMs, right ;-)

Was anyone else confused by my gender? I figure my writing style is rather more feminine than masculine. Also, I have a theory that almost any screenname ending in -a is bound to be female.

LOL, that guy is super-FAMOUS and undoubtedly not applying to medical school.

no, but you are my secret SDN crush though 😛

Thank you for that Milkman.

I'm scared as hell about these interviews!!! If I botch it up, I would never forgive myself!!! 😛

Just kidding!

Back on topic, I'm excited because I love traveling and I've done it on my own before, but I'm absolutely terrified that I'm going to say something totally idiotic and blow my chances

i thought oyu were female pianola..lol

will be riding the Fung Wah Bus from NYC to Boston and then back after the interview. no hotel room yet.. they are so pricey in the area. even with a discount its $200 a night so i may stay with a student host. my shoes were shipped 🙂

I'm terrified. Literally. I think I'm going to ask my doc for beta-blockers (I know others have suggested it).

I would be excited...Just that I don't have any calls...

Whats this emotion here??!!

Its a mix of 🙁 and 😛 I guess!

😀😀😀 So when are those Florida schools going to send out invitations so I can meet you? 😉 :: crosses fingers for good news ::

To be fair, though, I kept reading Tupacalipse's screen name as "Tulip-something" for the longest time. I believe the correct term for that is "cognitive dissonance".

THANK YOU jgberken and ar2388 🙂 And I'm pretty sure MilkmanAl knew.

Actually because of tweety, I thought the same too, but after a while you sounded like a guy...

But how can anyone mistake pianola for a guy😕😕😕

But anyways, I am freaked out about interviews... I basically have four in the span of 2 weeks, so I am cringing at that thought while I am also sad that I have not recieved anymore... and I still have secondaries to finish...GAH!

I know right!!! These Florida schools need to start showering us with interviews already! 🙂

I had you both pegged from day one. 😛

Interviews?!

SO EXCITED! :soexcited:

Wait a sec here...you guys know I'm a girl, right? 😕

I'll say what everyone told me when I was in your shoes (and I of course didn't believe them):

Interviewing is fun. You get to go see some schools, stay with some students hopefully, and sometimes you learn something about yourself from interviewing (even if it's just "I can lie through my teeth for two consecutive 30 minute intervals and look good doing it").

When I applied, I thought interviewing was hands down the most fun (only fun?) part of the application process. You get to meet tons of other people: the cool ones assure you that you are cool and qualified enough for med school...and the awkward ones assure you that at least you stand a better chance than some other applicants...

But, I digress. It's really just a conversation about you, your life, and your opinions. If you know who you are, it shouldn't really be too scary. 🙂

I would be more excited if i didn't look like a magician in my stupid suit

I'm excited, anxious, and nervous. At this point I'm probably more excited than nervous, but I'm sure that will change as it gets closer. I'm actually really nervous about just one of my schools for some reason...

 I think this has to be one of the 'quotables' of the year 🙂.

As for me, I plan on making every attempt to enjoy the interviews because, apart from those 5-10 minutes of hard-to-answer questions that make you forget your own name, the interview is basically a very nice vacation.

how long are you spending at each location for your interviews?

I typically fly in the night before and out the night of, so there is no "vacation" aside from a plane ride and sleeping in some crappy hotel.

Lies!

Truth!

Reconsidering your decision to go with the one covered in stars and crescent moons?

Yeah, me too. I'm such a sucker for that stuff.

Man, I was so stoked for my first interview, but now I have a huge chunk of down time before my next one. I think I'm going to be pretty mellow until it gets closer to time for my next one.

just got an invite for 9/11.. thats so soon!!!

That is IF they don't ask any ethical questions😕

Good luck! Please report back to us how it all went! My interview there is 9/30. 🙂

Yeah, I scheduled St. Louis and UVM back to back for 2 1/2 weeks from today, so I'm already pretty nervous about that. And excited. And nervous. And excited.

I'm in the same boat. Mine's coming up in 2 1/2 weeks, too. Excited, nervous, and scared. It's like going on a new date, but with graver implications if things do not work out 🙂
