There is a an Eliza Grier scholarship offered to 15 students accepted to Ross each term. You have to be nominated by a member of the Black Caucas! How the heck does one get nominated by a Cauacas???
Many of the recipients had high gpa's, impressive research and volunteer work.They couldv'e gotten into a US school! If they were rejected though, that just goes to show how damn hard it is to get into a US school. This one guy Ahmed (see link) had a 3.84 GPA and tons of research.

There is a shortage of U.S. medical schools (or seats in U.S. medical schools). It's the reason why there is a shortage of physicians that will only get worst if things don't change. To say his MCAT was low doesn't necessarily explain why he didn't get into a U.S. school. My best bud is in a U.S. med school and had a low gpa (by pre-med standards) and that certainly didn't shut him out. The shortage of physicians is also the reason why there has been an explosion of increasing scope of practice by mid-level/allied health providers.
