Step I Why do thrombi tend to go towards the heart?

Robbin's says that arterial thrombi tend to grow retrograde while venous thrombi tend to grow along the flow. Hence, both grow towards the heart.

What is the reason for such a pattern?

maybe more shear stress, as you get closer to the heart. Hence more arterial thrombi closer to heart.

venous thrombi is just the opposite? needs stagnant blood flow.
