Right now it's not me, but my husband will go for Pharm. D. But I am also very interested in this profession. Anyhow, my background is too far from pharm. d (I am in architecture) but maybe one day I will consider about it. My reason:
1, I love customer service and retail environment.
2, I love to work on odd schedule, hate 9 to 5 work.
3, The pay check is good and job is stable.
4, My grandma, my uncles all works in health-care field. It's some kind of influence.
5, Personally, I can benefit from the knowledge I learn from Pharm. D
etc..........................

Just curious, how come you chose not to pursue Pharmacy when you were a student?

Yes, I do want to know why nontraditional students have the idea to go for pharm. D, for example, I.T. or lawyer, etc. I am wondering if I am off from Pharm too far.
I didn’t change to pharm. in university because I couldn’t. (I am from China, where you can’t change your major to a totally different field.) You choose your major as a high school student without any work experience, job shadowing or career consultant.

It's the same way in MANY countries around the world. But still if after some years you decide to study something else, it should be YOUR decision, not just because everyone, or a great portion of people are doing it. just my opinion. 🙂

You're also one of the nontraditional pre-pharm students? It looks like you've graduated from college but your status on SDN is "pre-pharm".

Yes, I have graduated from college, with a bachelor and master degree in Archtiecture. I am at pre pre-pharm phase. I am working in an architectural firm and waiting for my green card. The green card doesn't allow me to do anything else except work in archtiecture full-time. So What I am doing now is taking some on-line pre-req. class, like english composition, economics. Also, I am 7-month pregnant. My husband is preparing for 2009 pharm.d.

Well, in those "MANY countries around the world," it's 100 times harder to switch. Hard to imagine? Let's say you chose CS major when you were a high school senior. Wanna switch to, say, chemistry in undergrad? Impossible. Wanna take chem courses while in CS major? Impossible. After graduation, you wanna pursue chemistry graduate program? Impossible, cause you didn't have chem education or experience or whatsoever, no grad school would take you, and there's no such thing as "post-bac programs." The only thing you could do for a deviation from CS in your life is to find a job in other fields. How? mostly through connections, and once a while by luck (and/or look maybe?). O yea, 1 other route----come to the U.S., haha

Totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though I miss my country, but the U.S. gives me more freedom.

FYI, I grew up and studied in one of those communist countries. I don't think I need an explanation of how things work.
