Why don't physicians unionize?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is the internet. We can debate and disagree, but don't get enraged by what someone else says on a public internet forum. If this was real life, you'd probably be trying to kill me.

I'm out of this thread for real.

While I agree with you that it's ****ed people are sending you hate mail, you should probably take this post down as I'm fairly sure posting content from PMs is against the TOS.

Didn't realize. Deleted.

How clever of you.
Your analogy to "liking where this thread is going" is observing the imminence of helpless Africans getting crushed by a plane. GBallersG. (And it ought to be in the Savannah too, just to reinforce the stereotype.)

Yeah, you tell him!

IIRC this picture is from Lord of War and those "helpless Africans" were actually thieves.

Yeah, you tell him!

You seriously took the effort of making that photo shop pic and that is all you came up with? How can a person be that unfunny

darn it! i'm dying of laughter by preallo's grand misconception of my pic. they'll make ANYTHING into a race issue when given the chance, and this thread proves it.

Ikr. So much fail itt.

Bump:

I wonder if either trend of
1. more and more healthcare being paid for by the government
2. more and more doctors working for hospitals/corporations than PP
continues, then at what point would Doctors consider forming a Union like other government workers or labor field employees that work for Corporations?

Is Unionization even a good option for Doctors?

"Whipple While We Worker's Union". You don't have to do whipples to join though, we're about "Unity in our Union", "Stand against the Man, We have the Plan".

Because going on strike is against their oath, and just plan crazy. Millions of patients would die for physicians to get paid just a little more. (or whatever we would be on strike for)

Millions might be a bit overboard but you get what I'm saying. It is at the safety of the patient

You're talking about striking, I'm talking about Unionizing. We'll get to striking later, we have some PR issue to work out first.

but basically the whole point of a union is to establish numbers to leverage yourselves against the corporation. The way to do that is by having large enough numbers refuse to work until the particular issue is solved. That is in my opinion why doctors should not unionize

This all has to be spun the right way.
I do wonder, if conditions were poor enough and physicians got pushed far enough to unionize, would the powers that be take the threat of a strike seriously at that point? We'd need to show why physicians were forced into a point of needing to defend themselves. Hire some real suave marketing drivers.

If we can get the public on board with the Union move, maybe we can turn public pressure onto the powers that be (Hosp/corp/.gov) so that if the word strike is even mentioned, the hysteria from the public comes crashing down on them, not the doctors. And the ensuring fear from "them" bends their wills to the otherwise reasonable demands of the docs.

I see what your saying, but I think it is all a stretch. What if the public takes offense at the fact that we would put their health and safety on the line to get our point across. I agree it would have to be an "absolute", dire kind of situation to make such a situation even remotely justified. I wander if a union of doctors would eventually become greedy or manipulative. Humans are inherently greedy and self-centered. I just don't think that a union would be a good idea at the expense of public health.

The Whipple While We Worker's Union needs good soldiers, like you.
