I watched this and felt some motivation, I feel like I have extra adversity against me, things my White colleagues don't face, but apparently admitting that makes you racist. Sigh.

I don't think admitting that makes you racist, but it definitely makes other people [i.e. especially your colleagues] uncomfortable.

People can't help their privilege. Especially when they deny being born into it.

Try not to compare where you are in life to other people's struggles. Others might be dealing with things you may not know about.

Use that energy to change your world. If medical school is what you want, be unstoppable in your hustle.

It will feel all the better when you succeed.

I couldn't agree with all of this anymore. Only thing i would add is succeed so you can be a voice for those who have been through what you have, and be the example for them you would've wanted yourself.

^ This. But it also doesn't hurt to seek out mentors now. Be proactive. If you find articles, blogs, youtube vlogs, faculty, etc - from med students, residents, and physicians who look like you, it doesn't hurt to send an email or even tweet them and ask for help. You may not get a response, but then again, you might find your greatest cheerleader. There are URMs floating around on here willing to help too. Harder to find because it's easier to mask one's race on the internet. Ask every doctor you see for advice, mentoring, shadowing, LOR. Have no shame. The worst they can do is say no. They're still getting paid, lol.

Actively read URM blogs and watch youtube videos because even if you don't connect with the physicians or they say they can't help, you can still learn through their experiences.

All the people that actually bought his services say they're worth it and that he's undercharging , I don't know though never bought them probably never will but I can tell he is an expert who actually cares about helping students and not just making money. As for the SDN bashing I agree this site is great but he did have some valid points.

Why would they buy it? I can assure you, I am far ahead most of them in every aspect, without his "guidance".

Not everyone's a genius like you lol. If they trust the man and know his product will be of good quality why wouldn't they invest in their future?

I know this man personally in real life and he's actually a mentor of mine. First off no one has more passion about genuinely helping people succeed like him-- but in order for him to continue to make great and effective content he needs the funds to do so. It's not easy doing 90+ hours of residency per week, while maintaining a business on the side, he isn't trying to run a charity. Most of the other self-ran pre-med prep businesses like him look like crap and you don't really learn anything by the end of the video, and most pre-meds foolishly pay thousands on unnecessary stuff anyway. If it was up to me i rather pay to get personalized advice, instead of that generalized stuff other companies sell you. Oh and what he said about SDN is true, i didn't use SDN during my entire undergrad and i thank god because in these last few months of having it-- it's given me more anxiety and stress than anything else.
