Why is history major depression a counterindication to a lung transplant?

just had a practice question on that... pt who is 50 yo has a pulmonary fibrosis and is due to a lung transplant. His IQ is 78. He as history of major depressive disorder (MDD). Which is the the strongest counterindication for lung transplant?

Correct answer: history of MDD

Any idea?

Smoking is the one I've always heard, but I feel like MDD is in there somewhere too, and I can't remember why.

the answer is smoking........ wow
 
no offense...but DUH! thats the same logic behind not giving a current drinker a liver transplant...
 
yea well i just wanted to put it out there so nobody else who saw the post would get it wrong like i did. There's no way i woulda put depression if I hadn't seen this post... just wanted to alert everyone that it was wrong
 
smoking cessation is the answer 99.999999% of the time when its an answer choice.. I base this off of a sample size of like 50 lol
