why is this forum so slow?

I am a M3 student interested in ob/gyn and just wondering why this forum is so slow... I was just wondering if it's because residents are so busy or what?!

I think that there just aren't that many OB/gyn residents who post on SDN regularly. As a result, there isn't that much traffic on this particular forum.

I would argue that the surgery residents are just as busy (if not busier) than many OB/gyn residents, and yet the surgery forum is home to a lot of threads and posts. I think that's because some of the big-name posters on SDN (WingedScapula, Blade28, njbmd, Tired, etc.) are surgery residents.

Hopefully it will pick up in a few years as more of us become interested in OB/gyn! 😀

Honestly? I feel that this forum is predominantly made up of medical students, not OB/Gyn residents. Much of the activity is during ERAS season, and it can give off a "I'm so brilliant, these are the top programs I am interviewing at/ranking, etc." I'm not comfortable with the smarmy, gunner attitude I often find here, and therefore usually keep my opinions to myself and do not post much.

I've been a member of SDN since I was a med student and I think it's a great site. But as an attending, there's really not many areas in the forum that fit well with where I am now, or the issues or challenges I am dealing with....

Enjoy your clinical years and use them to explore and learn. Once you are a resident, you will not have the same amount of time with your patients. Also, every rotation can teach you something, even if you'd never want to do that specialty. 'Nuff lecturing... have fun!

Trillgirl is right about the traffic picking up around match every year... I hope that in the future more residents return and post as well.

I for one started back as a medical student (in the Pathology forum), used SDN to study for Step 2 (lots of great hints on that forum), and then the match (for OB/GYN). It can be a great resource (research, CREOGS, Boards) if more residents participated.

As Trillgirl said, its a little harder to add to certain topics since I am in fellowship and sometimes can't relate, but I still try to help out whenever I can.

Anyhow, long story short, hang in there with the forum... hopefully it'll stay busy on a regular basis.

Maybe we're just more social than the OB/GYN residents. 😉

Its always been unclear to me why this forum isn't more active and why it doesn't attract more senior level residents and attendings. The forum can be anything you want it to be; if there are more medical students here but the attendings and residents want discussions that pertain to them, then they need to start them.
