what work hours? zero? ya those are cool. My dean was just talking with some buddies of mine- he said he doesn't get why the p1s and p2s are in school still.... since pharmacy is freaking dying.
If you're so emphatic about pharmacy being dead, why not drop out and pursue a thriving field? You'd more than make back your money, and you'd only have a few years of pharmacy debt behind you.
shhhhh.... don't tell the pre-pharms----- they all know how things REALLY are... tons of jobs...just gotta work hard and set yourself apart! then you'll get a job for SURE!!! 🙄. I'm just a pessimist..... I was talking to a kid who, for some bizarre reason, is planing to apply to pharm school. I said dude- just put those pre-req's towards some other field that is not dying. He told me he was "in too far"...HAHAHA- hadn't even applied yet. He said he'll just set himself apart. gooooood answer
You're discounting an entire population of people and basically saying they're dumb for wanting to pursue this career in healthcare. Is that the kind of empathy they teach at your school? Pharmacy is not dead, though the kind of people who preach this ideology might find themselves not getting hired or not moving up in their position. Negative people are usually pretty easy to pick out. And like you said, there are more graduates each year, so I think it's an understatement to advise everyone to stay positive and try to find the job they want.
I didn't do my research in 2008 when I applied to pharmacy school so I really did NOT know that pharmacy was a dying profession. That is due to my own fault, yes.
If you GRADUATE RIGHT NOW (this second), you can get a job if you relocate to a very ghetto/rural place. Or if your dad is the CEO of Walgreens and you have amazing connections. So yes, RIGHT NOW pending that you are willing to MOVE or you have AMAZING connections you can get a job.
This just isn't true. Might serve ya some good to move there for a little bit, though.
😛
HOWEVER, pharmacy's job outlook is getting WORST AND WORST AND WORST every second. Every year it is getting harder and harder to find a job....am I 100% sure that I won't get a job? No, b/c I will graduate pretty soon...but am I 100% sure that I will get a job? No b/c the market is just that bad. It's getting WORST every second! Like I say if you graduate RIGHT NOW, you still have a very small hope. But if you graduate 5 or 10 years from now? You are royally ****. That's how it is. So for those that are applying now and will graduate in 2016? you are fu*k to say the least.
This is harsh, even from you SHC.
It's obvious that there is an alarming trend in new school openings, and you'd be wise to keep abreast of it. I'm pushing for APhA to take a formal stand on it since they're opening yet ANOTHER COP in North Texas, making for 7 schools here.
🙄
But to mock those of us who say you should try your best to differentiate yourself to land a job? What other advice should we give? I'm 2 years into my program and I can tell you there are people in our classes who may have a high GPA (or might not) who do diddly squat outside of class. When you go to hire that person, you'll see a blank resume save for a GPA and mandatory rotations/ service learning hours.
I still believe pharmacy is a viable field. If you see a pharmacist and say "I'd like to do that job," what's to stop you, save a few negative comments on here?
