Why is zona glomerulosa spared in secondary adrenal insufficiency. isnt acth responsible for the activation of Sidechain cleavage enzyme, and thus synthesis of aldosterone as well?

Responsiveness of the zona glomerulosa to ACTH is very limited. A basal level of ACTH stimulation is required for constitutive expression of cholesterol desmolase, but mineralocorticoid production isn't altered in response to change in plasma ACTH levels.
