Ive already done a search...and all found was Drexel vs some school but I didn't find anything too useful.
For those that know about Drexel, go there, or interviewed there....why do you like it? Why would you/did you choose to go there? Any information you guys have will help! Thanks 🙂

I interviewed at drexel med in september/got in october and heading there next august. I loved the school for a lot of reasons but these are my main ones:
1. year 1 and 2 the IFM curriculum really preps you for boards and focuses on teaching in an integrated manner, I never liked schools where you did 2 months of grosss THEN immuno THEN biochem, at drexel its going on at once which may feel stressful but in the end you really learn the information. the fact the lectures and school are IT friendly is also a big plus, I know a lot of students who can watch lectures where ever they are, which is nice!
2. the clinical side of the school (years 3 and 4) are also great especially with a hospital in downtown philly! I personally like emed and knowing that some of my rotations will be in big city hospital was a plus. I also spent a year working on a clinical project with a drexelmed doc and my time there showed me that even as a med student you get a lot of clinical exposure! its not just a line they give at the interview day you actually do get a lot of time in the hospitals.
3. I'm not sure about other people, but I am research inclined and drexel's basic research deparments like pharm and neurobio do have places for students to do some research which if it is your interest certainly helps.
Those were my big reasons for choosing drexelmed, also throw into that the students who I have met have all been happy to share stories and are happy with their med school experience.

Two words: Philadelphia 76ers, lol

I was little turned off to the school when I interviewed there the other day. Most of the students I spoke with said they went to Drexel because they didnt get in anywhere else. They didnt seem very enthusiastic either. The technology was the best I ever seen but the school itself reminded me of a high school in a sense.

I agree about the technology being the best out of all of the schools I visited. Unfortunately, I have also heard your other comment a lot about the students going there because they were not accepted at other schools.

1. I really liked the PIL curriculum. I went to a small liberal arts college and studied philosophy, spending most of my time arguing with other students and professors in a round table like setting. The idea that I could learn medicine in a small group setting with a great deal of class participation sounded perfect.

2. Technologically they are head and shoulders above most schools.

3. Their pre-clinical campus is quite new and quite nice.

4. They accept a wide range of types of applicants, not just those right out of college. Diversity (other than race) is important.

Thanks for the responses so far 🙂

I interviewed there in early November and am still waiting for a decision. I agree with the above; my student interviewer, for instance, was alluding that he chose Drexel becuase he wanted to stay in the North East area, and wasn't accepted to his choice schools.

However, I liked to small campus feel, since it isn't physically connected to an undergrad. I also liked the teaching methods for its first and second year students. Even IFM has some small group sessions, and the IFM classes are available for viewing on the internet, if you want to stay home.

I really didn't have cons about the school. But I will say that I am not enthusiastic about how clinicals are setup on a lottery system and that you are sent to many different parts of Pennsylvania. I have heard a lot about the values of going and doing clinicals at many different hospitals, but I may not look forward to packing my stuff and moving every 6 to 12 weeks. Also I was surprised to find out that medicine and surgery clinicals are not held at Hahnemann, but this is really not a big deal.

I really liked the school and campus setting ( I have been invited to interview at three other schools), and if admitted, it would take an acceptance at my choice school to not go to drexel.

I'm an MS-I at Drexel, and I love it here, and I can honestly vouch for that. I'm sure that there are some students in my class who did not get in anywhere else, but I can also vouch for the fact that many had multiple acceptances. Regardless, that should not be a deciding factor in choosing a medical school. I got into Drexel Med, and into my state school. I still chose Drexel, despite the 2x price tag. The faculty and students here are great. Everyone is friendly, and many go out of their way to help each other. I love the IT stuff, because, as an IFMer (if you read up on the school, that will make sense to you), I get to sleep late and take long weekends, by watching the lectures online later. IFM v. PIL is a choice you'll have to make if you are offered admission, and to choose to enroll. It's more of a personal decision than anything else and really has no bearing on your chances of admission. To sum it up, I love it here, and I can honestly say that if you get in here, and choose to come here, you will have a great experience. You can't go wrong choosing Drexel. 🙂

One other thing--as a New Yorker, I was apprehensive about Philly, because no city compares to NYC in my opinion. However, I've been pleasantly surprised--the people are friendly, and there's tons of stuff to do.

for those that interviewed:

did you have 2 diff. interviews..one with a student and one with a faculty. thats what it seems like from the interview part of sdn..

thanks!

Yep, that's right, surferdoc, one student and one faculty interview.

thanks vaulter...what did u think of the interview

I know you didn't ask me, but I thought both were pretty mellow. The faculty was straightforward and the student was super laidback during lunch.

ledaddy..thank you its appreciated!!! I knew a lot about the other schools i interviewed at...Drexel not so much. So this is why Im asking! but good to hear 🙂

Ditto! The faculty one was actually kind of fun, and the student was very laid back. I actually got handed off from one student (4th year due to a mishap) to another (2nd year) right as we were getting started. I interviewed after the 2nd year had already eaten, since mine was late in the day, so I was trying to gulp my lunch and talk at the same time. Even despite that stuff it wasn't at all stressful. I think the student described me as "laid back" at some point in the interview, actually.

I like how all the courses are online and there is a great deal of support from the faculty. since many courses are taken at once, they connect the subjects together in system-based modules. For example in the chest pain module, gross dealt with the chest and everything in it (e.g. lungs, heart, etc), biochem dealt with lipid metabolism and artherogenesis, micro dealt with blood, physio dealt with cardiovascular function, genetics dealt with multifactorial diseases, etc, etc, etc. You get the point.

Also, the match list is good.
