  1. Pre-Dental
Hi! I just received acceptance to the Rutgers Gateway program, 4 months after being rejected! I guess I was waitlisted (but i was never made aware.) Here's the problem- I have other plans now. I took on an internship in a dental office. If I reject them now, will I be blacklisted by Rutgers?

Blacklisted

Lol I was obviously joking, just a fan of the show
But if you are going to turn them down I would call and explain to them you're situation, or send them a letter

What is this? An actual acceptance or a predental program?

I don't think you would be blacklisted, though, I think it would help your application way more by doing the program rather than working at a dental office.

Thanks all for the advice--- update: I checked out the dates, and while I did accept a dental internship to offset the initial rejection, it turns out that I will be out of the country on Birthright for some of these days. Should I cancel? Idk what to do! I feel like they really put me in a weird position here. I was never made aware that I was on any sort of waiting list, and it's been 4 months since my initial rejection. Thoughts?

Gateway program>internship in any scenario. The fact that you'd turn them down for an internship is alarming in itself.

Two things: 1) Did you read the update? 2) Was I supposed to wait around and keep my calendar open even after the rejected me? I don't understand your logic. I should have turn down my internship/job and risk losing a "letter of recommendation" along with the reference and salary that would come with it? I'm glad to know that this is alarming! If you weren't invited to a party, and then you were invited at the last minute-even though you already had plans, you'd cancel your plans and go- or would you have kept your calendar open JUST in case?

1) No I didn't, for that I apologize
2) Well either way, you can't go so I don't understand why you're so worked up. Just explain your situation to them and hope for the best. It won't be as big of a deal as turning down a dental school acceptance.

A word of caution with your metaphor though, if the party in question was your only acceptance via waitlist for dental school, then yes, you are expected to drop all plans and attend or risk not being invited to any future parties for a long, long time.

Once again, I apologize for any offense I may have caused.

Rutgers Gateway. My best friend is currently a D1 at Rutgers; he did Gateway; he's a NJ resident. He spoke directly with the director of admissions or dean there (a lady). According to my best friend after his Gateway program, the lady told him that NJ-residents and Gateway participants are almost automatically admitted to the dental program whereas non-NJ residents, who although participated in gateway, are brushed aside.

but what if i'm a non-nj student and a gateway student?

Sorry, just edited my post. As a non-nj resident and gateway student, you will be considered but still likely to be brushed aside.

According to doctoothache's numbers, 1415 non-nj applicants, 157 int, 30 acc. That's 2% A and 19%AoI

I applied to Rutgers and was declined with 25dat/3.5/strong ECs, but you might be different.

I did gateways as a NJ resident and still got waitlisted at Rutgers with a 23dat/3.7 GPA. Nothing is guaranteed in Dental School Admissions

The only thing that should give you pause is if ppl who complete the gateway program get preferential treatment for admission (i dont know anything about this). Besides that a two-week program with no gurantees doesn't sound that special that you should be worried about turning it down. That's my two cents.

Ahh that's disappointing, since my friend had similar stats.

To OP: I suggest you still do Gateway because it's only 2 weeks and my friend says you learn a lot as a pre-dental. It may be possible your internship director can adjust for you if he/she has your best dental interest in mind.
