My GPA is now 3.50 at my present college. Before I moved from TX to CA, I had enrolled at a community college for a class on Ballroom Dancing (to meet cute girls), one on Rock Climbing and another on Biology-1. The classes were almost free to me because I worked there. In the process of moving, I forgot to withdraw from these classes. Last month I found out that I got F's in all three classes. I don't have any other classes at that community college, so maybe I can get by without mentioning this in my application? The 3 F's are going to considerably depress my GPA. Should I reveal this to medical schools when I apply? Are they likely to find out? How will they find out?

P/S. I also posted this on the Allo board {full disclosure}

I had a similar problem with a state school in Colorado. When I moved to Florida I withdrew from the school. I was unaware that the distance learning was a seperate withrawl process and received F's in two courses that I was taking online.

I contacted the school and was advised they had a process in place to evaluate situations like mine. I wrote a letter explaining my mistake and they changed my F's to W's. I'll take the lesser of the two evils as I can explain a withdraw easier than a fail.

Good luck.

Odds are 99%+ that you would get away with it.

But would you raw dog a heavenly blessed 9.99/10 who was HIV positive, even if the risk of transmission is only 1/1000?

I'd try what thinbluedoc did, though from your explanation, I don't think you'll be able to turn those F's into W's. Worth a shot, anyway.

AMCAS will require that you send in transcripts from this college. I don't know exactly how and at what point in this process schools would find out about this, but there'll be hell to pay when they do. People have posted before about this.

Overall: how you got those F's was kind of dumb, but you might as well just own up to it now instead of trying to hide it and worrying about the potential consequences.

That's just not fair.

Oh man! I'm screwed.

I think with an explanation, you should be fine. Worst comes to worst, you could try and retake those 3 classes (you're gonna have to take bio-1 again anyway).

you have to disclose every class you took at every college you went to regardless of the outcome. IF you do not and the school finds out, there is a chance that you will could be dismissed for lying on your application.

why chance it?

Like I said in the other thread, you are fine, and if you retook bio 1, DO schools will replace the grade and not even look at the F. Same with rock climbiing and ballroom dancing, though those may be harder to replace.

How long ago was this? Texas (I'm going to assume you're from/living in Texas) has a great forgiveness policy. I believe they will forgive any grade older than 10 years. So, if you're a non-trad with some mileage between yourself and those grades you could be in the clear, even if you do report them.

By the time I apply, it will be a little over 10 years.
I am told Texas no longer has a grade forgiveness policy. Are you sure about this?

hahaha

u MISC brah?

PIITB?

come at me brah

I did this same exact thing with 2 classes and it never even came up during my app cycle. The only schools I applied to that I didnt get an interview from were PCOM and UMDNJ. It seems no one really cared because other than that one blemish in stupid classes(financial accounting) I showed myself to be a good applicant. As long as you aren't a borderline applicant to begin with then you will be fine if you own it.

I'm not positive. I was just trying to give you something you could look into. I heard about the forgiveness policy a few years ago, but I couldn't tell you whether or not it's still in place or not. You should look it up (not just ask about it on SDN), because if it is, you will be set.

Good luck.

It's best if you just put it in your application. No point in risking your entire application because of that. Most schools will probably overlook it because I dont think they care how well of a dancer you are or how you climb a rock. The biology you should just mention somewhere in your personal statement. overall, I think you should just put it on your application.

Yes, yes I would. Not joking.

I think the most important question here is ... Was taking a dance class to meet cute girls successful?

LOL, I didn't attend any classes that semester because I moved from TX to CA. But in general, yes - dance classes are a good way to meet girls. However, those girls seem attracted to guys who dance really, really well. And those good dancers almost always tend to be gay guys {or they're the cool Black dudes who know unique dance moves}. But mostly the girls dig gay guys because those guys dance so well. So you and I don't stand a chance!

Bummer! I was going to take a salsa class next semester.

You might get a lot of cute Latina girls in a salsa class. They don't seem as hung up on guys who dance well. So people like you and me still have a chance. LOL.
