I will have a cGPA of around 3.5 with a high upward trend by the time I apply, and a sGPA of around 3.4. I don't really have the money or time to retake the Organic Chem class, I have done much better in BioChem (A-) and hope to get at least around a 510 on the MCAT. My extracurriculars and everything look well, it is just the C- I am concerned about. I plan on applying both MD and DO too. Thank you for any input in advance!

you may have to retake the C- if it is a prerequisite for a school you matriculate to. schools don't accept prereqs with less than a C grade.

Some schools require you to pass all prerequisite classes with a grade of C or higher, whether they will accept a C- is up to the individual school, so it would be best to retake.

Some schools require “C” or better for pre-reqs. Does a C- count in that definition? I believe that depends on the school.

C is the not the same as C-

Are there any schools that will accept a C-? I applied to about 35 schools and looked at the requirements for numerous others and none of them would accept a C- in orgo (unless they didn't require orgo to begin with).

OP you will likely need to retake this. What is the more important use of your money and time? It would be much better to retake this class than be auto-rejected and waste an entire application year of time and money.

Thank you for the feedback! It looks like most MD schools don't seem to have the C- threshold, but a couple DO schools do have it. I wonder why this is?

Thank you! It looks like certain DO schools have the C- requirement, but many DO and especially MD do not, not sure why though!

Is this Ochem I or II? I know for many schools you can substitute Biochem I in lieu of Ochem II.

Which schools explicitly said they would accept it?

One C- isn't going to kill you, but the lowish GPAs will hurt. You need to ace things from now on, and consider DO schools.
Of course! Thank you, and I will continue to work at the GPA, will definitely consider DO. I guess my question is, will I get screened out of schools?

No you won’t. I’m doing pre-dental, got a C in orgo 2 and I’m doing fine this cycle with receiving interviews

No, it's a another pre-med delusion; that if you do poorly in a a pre-req, that it's dooms you. Even failing Orgo won't keep you out of med school. You will need to retake it, though.

Thank you, but you are stating that I should retake it, and I definitely should not apply with the C-? Just wanted to clarify

There is a person at my undergrad instituiton that got a D 3 times in orgo 1, but followed that up with A's in the lab orgo 2 and biochem. YOU HAVE TO ACE THE REST OF THE CLASSES FOLLOWED UP!

And it looks like the OP's doing that; a 3.4 or 3.5 with a steep upward trend means A's are going in the transcript. Retake, keep doing well, and you should be good for DO and maybe even MD. Get a 514 or better and you've got a good shot at MD schools if your ECs are good.
