I want to bring a stopwatch to my exam cause I feel it helps me, but the damn thing beeps every time I start or stop/reset it. Will the Procter mind or care??

I don't feel like spending money just for a silent stop watch.

Ummm, get a non-beeping watch.

If you were in my session, and I heard that going off in the middle of an exam, I would say something to the proctor.

Sorry if that's being a jerk. But being honest.

Just wear a wristwatch. Besides the fact that people will probably complain about the beeping, you are not allowed to have things on your desk and might get kicked out of the testing center for that. On my test day, people were not allowed to even wear hoodies and jackets let alone have anything extra on their desks.

I wouldn't bring a watch that beeps, you don't know how the proctor will be. They may just kick you out of the testing room, or they may just give you a warning. But to be on the safe side just bring a regular watch that doesn't beep.

It won't go off during the exam just right before it starts and right after it ends. It is a timer on a wrist watch not one of kitchen counters that you set a time to, its more like a track watch were you just start and stop it as you wish.

I can clearly recall the proctors saying if they find a cellphone or anything else that makes a noise, they're going to confiscate it and need be remove you out of the test with no warnings. Just bring a normal watch and practice on that from now on- it really helps. I had a nice one given to me when I was a kid but they go pretty cheap these days so money's not an issue.

Bottom line, don't risk anything.

Doesn't matter now... I opened up the wrist watch and rigged it so it doesn't make any more noise. Justhanging = 1 Pcat = 0

The email I received from Pearson about the June PCAT had this in it:

.. ..Do not take into the test a cell phone, digital watch, mechanical pencils, hats, sunglasses, or anything that has not been preapproved by Pearson. If a cell phone is brought to the session, it must be turned off and put in the designated holding area and can only be accessed after the test is over. You cannot keep it in your pocket, and you will not have access to it at the designated break. Any cell phone that is left on during the test is grounds for immediate dismissal from the test with no refund, even if it is in the secure holding area. Please review the Candidate Information Booklet (which can be read at the website) for policy on prohibited items.

Am pretty sure I'll be ok with my wristwatch that doesn't make any noise.

Well it sounds pretty explicitly like a "digital watch" which is something not allowed. If they don't allow mechanical pencils I don't see why they'd let you slide with that. Probably better off not learning to rely on something you might not be able to have.

yeah, I think you can get a pretty cheap analog watch at Walmart or Target. If you want to have some sort of timer, that is the way to go. Someone else here on SDN said they got a cheap analog watch and reset it to 12 o'clock at the beginning of each section to use as a timer.

That, to me, would be the way to go rather than risking getting kicked out of the session for wearing a digital watch.

I know a guy who had his scores canceled because his cell phone made a noise like he got a text.
the worse part about is that his cell phone was in his back pack!!!! the proctor found where it came from and made him leave. He had to retake the PCAT!!! and he did not get a refund. I dont think that you would want anything alarming or beeping if a proctor can do this!!!

I used mechanical pencils on my test. and there was no "holding area" where I took it. We just shoved our purses under our desk and mine had my phone in it. we just couldn't get anything out of our purse during break time.

I also used mechanical pencils and had no problems but left my phone in my car.

I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to have a digital watch. It clearly states that on the Pearson website agreement.

This is true... Some procs don't follow the rule obviously because even they themselves are just laid back, as long as the test proceeds well...but the test taken at JHU, someone before the test told the proc that somebody had a watchwrist, and they made everyone who had one take it off and put it in the holding area.

so i would def bring 3 non-mechanical pencils with GOOD/NEW erasers, no long sleeve, hat, and absolutely nothing in the pocket except the id's and admission ticket
