Just wondering. Because that would suck if I retake 2 or 3 classes that would really benefit my application, and then well.... Does anyone know the specifics of the policy. I can only imagine them putting an end to this sooner or later as osteopathic schools become more and more competitive.

This is an interesting idea, and I can see it happening. DO schools are becoming more and more popular as the public becomes aware that there are two pathways to become a physician, not just one. In the end, the schools will have to figure out a way to sift through the applications, and what better way then through sheer numbers? I know it sucks, but when a school receives thousands of applications, a screening process must be done or the entire process will take too long. I'm just hoping DO schools wont remove it until I get into med school

I dunno, I can't see it goin' away. I think there's too many people out there who were young, immature, unmotivated, etc... and never put academics as their number one priority. Fortunately for (most) of them, they mature, get their act together, and knock their grades out of the park. For some, Post-baccs and SMP's are just too costly, so retaking classes may be a cheaper option.

I know of two people who are going back and retaking classes. Both are a little older, and they have done much better in all of their classes. That work ethic that they now have probably won't go away for them anytime soon. You give them the chance, and they can probably compete with most people in their med school class.

Sorry for the extended response, I'm feeling very philosophical for some reason, and I think people deserve a second chance if they're willing to put forth the effort.

👍 I agree, and I hope that the AOA and others involved with the permission regarding retakes continue to agree long into the future.

It probably won't be removed from policy, but it'll likely become used even less, as more "motivated and academically orientated" premed students start coming in without ever having retaken a class.
