Second, as I’ve stated before, I’m well aware of medical terminology, but I’ll use baby on an informal forum if I feel like it. This isn’t an electronic record or a discussion with another medical professional in a clinical setting, so simmer down. The most hilarious part is that after you finished your little rant on terminology, you used the phrase “fetus has rights outside of the womb” in the very next sentence. Thanks for the chuckle.

Third, why would you prefer to reduce abortions and increase access to adoptions?

If you want to continue making yourself look like a disingenuous ***** by using incorrect terminology, go right ahead. And believe it or not, I know you have a simpleton's view of the other side and a failure of imagination in as far as the ability to put yourself into your opponent's shoes, but people on the left are not itching to go around aborting fetuses at a moment's notice. Abortions, even though they carry less mortality risk than a full term pregnancy, are still a sometimes invasive medical procedure with risks which a woman may not want to undertake. Women, presumably who have access to contraception, may not even want to be placed in the position of having to make a choice between abortion or no abortion. As I already said, but apparently you're unable to grasp, pro-choice means having choices, whether that choice is abortion, having a baby and keeping it, or eventually giving up a baby for adoption.

Fourth, I’m not catholic. Why do I have to believe what Catholics believe? That’s completely irrelevant. You try to make this black and white distinction that if you think life is valuable, it’s never ok to end a life. You obviously keep making an exception for self defense, as I have, yet it’s some insurmountable logical leap for you to say there’s also an exception for horrible murderers? And I did answer the why in regards to the rapist/murderer. I think the death penalty is fitting for the crime committed. I don’t believe allowing him to continue living when he ended 10 lives is appropriate. You say that’s not good enough reason? Sorry. What possible reason could I give that would be good enough for you? There’s no cosmic reference book to show us what is the exact appropriate punishment for a crime. We, as a society and individuals, make assessments of crimes and attach
what we see as appropriate punishments. Don’t know what you want from me...some kind of 50 page ethical dissertation on the morality of the death penalty???

Catholics, who have shaped much of Western philosophical thought about abortion and capital punishment over the past 2000 years, are irrelevant? LOL, OK chief. I know you'd like to use a strawman that I want you to believe what catholics believe, but in actuality what I'm trying to get you to do is understand their argument. For them, all human life (of which they include fetuses and death row inmates) has some intrinsic, invaluable quality which other human beings do not have the right to destroy. I am an atheist but I understand this argument and I even think it can be adapted into a secular frame. What they have done is laid down a philosophical axiom (all humans beings have a right to life) and then created a logically coherent worldview to follow. Your worldview has a logical contradiction if your axiom is the same as the Catholics, therefore you have to slap a big asterisk on it...i.e. all human beings have a right to life* *except in the case of X or Y or Z.

If you are going to use an asterisk, and especially if your asterisk stems from shaky, circular, emotion-based reasoning like the part I bolded above where your reason for believing his life should be ended is because you believe it should be ended, then you have zero justification or rationale against pro-choice arguments. They have an asterisk as well, and it seems to be supported by just as much reasoning as you've employed.

Fifth, it’s not hard for me to verbalize the reasons to spare a mothers life over a fetus (there, did your rage ease up for a sec?). As a husband, I have a deep meaningful relationship with my wife. And while an attachment/relationship is made even before the fetus is delivered (2 for 2 phew!), it pales in comparison to the relationship and love I have more my wife. Is that not sufficient enough justification for you?

You loving your wife more is a subjective value judgement. If abortion comes down to subjective value judgements like who loves what more instead of some rational argument about the value of human life, then perhaps it's best if you and the government stayed out of abortion altogether?

Eight, yes, I mess with you from time to time cause you’re kind of an angry A-hole.

A disingenuous rose by any other name...

Again, that’s great that Catholics have been around for 2000 years and believe what they believe. That is not a coherent argument to make a point. I could take a tenet of Islam and tell you the Muslims have been around for centuries and centuries and they believe X, Y, Z. So what?

Do Catholics believe in taking a life in self defense? I’ll bet you they do. And if they do, then by your phraseology and logic, they must have a big ol asterisk next to their axiom. You seem to allow them that asterisk, but are unwilling to grant me two asterisks? Who granted you the ability to limit asterisks. And to make the claim that more than one asterisk is unacceptable?

Oh wait, what about war? Have Catholics ever been to war?

Better give em two asterisks...

Your reasoning, despite how passionately you repeat it, is weak here.

@vector2 I recommend you block him, like some of the rest of us have. You’ll thank me later 🙂

Yeah, sympathize with the guy who constantly insults and demeans other posters, but block the guy who’s views you disagree with. Yay tolerance.

Uhhhhhh [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849][emoji849][emoji849]

You just described the whole basis of the pro-choice position...

Subjective value judgement by the mother on a case by case basis regarding whether the fetus is worth it or not.

I honestly don't know what came over me. As you can see, once again he ignores the meat and just cherry picks a part to respond to, but it's like I had a seizure or something and couldn't stop engaging with the dishonest halfwit- probably the fact I have a couple days off and have been on the computer too much. OK, he's going back in the ignore pile.

Appeals court rules Deutsche Bank must turn over Trump financial records to House

Deutsche Bank and Capital One must comply with a House subpoena seeking a broad range of financial documents related to President Trump and his businesses, a federal appeals court ruled on Tuesday.

A three-judge panel of the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday ruled 2-1 in favor of ordering "prompt compliance" with the subpoenas from the House Financial Services and Intelligence committees.

"The public interest in vindicating the Committees’ constitutional authority is clear and substantial," the judges wrote in the decision.

"It is the interest of two congressional committees, functioning under the authority of a resolution of the House of Representatives authorizing the subpoenas at issue, to obtain information on enforcement of anti-money-laundering/counter-financing of terrorism laws, terrorist financing, the movement of illicit funds through the global financial system including the real estate market, the scope of the Russian government’s operations to influence the U.S. political process, and whether the Lead Plaintiff was vulnerable to foreign exploitation," they continued.

The subpoenas are part of a congressional probe into the president's dealings with Deutsche Bank, which is reportedly being investigated for its role in a $200 billion money-laundering scheme involving Russia.

Judges Jon Newman, who was appointed by former President Jimmy Carter, and Peter Hall, a George W. Bush appointee, joined for the majority decision. Judge Debra Ann Livinston, another Bush appointee, issued a partial dissent.

The ruling is the latest blow to the president's efforts to fight off congressional oversight of his business dealings and personal finances.

The 2nd Circuit and the D.C. Circuit have both ruled that Trump's accounting firm must comply with separate subpoenas from the Manhattan district attorney and House investigators. The president has asked the Supreme Court to intervene in some of those cases.

And Trump's lawyers have already suggested appealing this decision to the high court.

“We believe the subpoena is invalid as issued," Jay Sekulow, Trump's personal attorney, wrote on Twitter. "In light of the Second Circuit decision, we are evaluating our next options including seeking review at the Supreme Court of the United States.”

In April, the Financial Services and Intelligence committees issued identical broad subpoenas to Deutsche Bank and Financial Services issued another narrower subpoena to Capital One.

The Deutsche subpoenas seek extensive categories of documents, with the requests filling six single-spaced pages.

Trump sued to block the subpoenas in April and appealed after a district court ruled that the companies had to comply.

The president has seven days to file for a review of the decision.

Once again, Trump continues his tireless quest to prevent the release of financial records and tax returns, the same ones which every President for the past 40 years has released in the interest of being ethical. Whatever bombshell he's hiding must truly be incredible, and I'm interested to see whether Roberts, when all these suits hit SCOTUS, will protect his legacy by taking a stand against the most corrupt executive this country has ever seen.

If the idea of whether abortion = murder isn't even clear cut whether clinically or philosophically, why is the government, whose politicians are ignorant and closed-minded, getting involved and enforcing its own ignorance and prejudice?? That's the problem i have with government interference. If a topic becomes controversial and there aren't easy answers, politicians rely heavily on social conservatism and enforce them blindly.

That’s not how that works because abortion is legal

Yeah i'm glad the Supreme Court was sane and logical at that time but things can change because of really idiotic culture wars. Several states are already enforcing stupid overly restrictive abortion laws to challenge the courts on top of doing harmful things like blocking Medicaid expansion.

The government, both at federal and state levels, are terrible at healthcare issues because they are ignorant and ill informed, and prioritize idealistic talking points for electoral advantages and ignore the practical outcomes.

That's why the governments should stay out of the abortion debate altogether.

Kamala Harris has dropped out of the race.
I so desperately wish that Castro was polling better, he’s definitely my favorite.

Stacy Abrams has said she plans to run for president in the future. I’m excited to see where her career goes. I can’t wait until we can return to some sort of normalcy in the future after all this damage has been done :/

Your claim that politicians always run conservative on social things is absurd. You are wrong

Are you whatting her dropping out or my support of Castro? 🙂

She did well fundraising in Nov and qualified for the Dec debate, but she didn’t get much positive press overall andshe wasn’t polling well recently.

My support for Castro is justified!

I'm not, and there is nothing about her that says "normalcy" to me.

Biden, on the other hand, does. He's been around for a very long time, hasn't taken many extreme views, changes his stances on issues over time. He would make a great one-term president (I think he's too old to run twice - he'd be 86 when he left office) to Make America Sane Again.

That's a false generalization. The government at this point just needs to follow what the Supreme Court decided on in 1973. That's not the case, which means there is a clear social conservative opposition here, as seen by repeated challenges to the 1973 case by states and federal politicians deliberately and actively undermining the ruling. The progressive states and politicians are simply following what the Court decided, if not already further expanding healthcare access for women needing the procedures. Seems like the ones fueling the culture wars here are the social conservatives and traditionalists by making a decided case controversial again.

My support for Castro is justified!

I'm surprised that Harris dropped out. Also, i got slammed in SPF and i probably will be slammed here, but i'm pushing for Warren winning the nomination. I don't like Biden for several reasons, and Sanders is too far left. Buttigieg appears to be too corporate with a bad record on race. The others are too far behind.

If Castro becomes a frontrunner, i'm ok supporting him. I think Deval is good too but idk what will happen.

Biden winning will lead to the Ukraine chaos unfolding in general election and i really don't want that

Harris dropped out from a race that is basically composed of a mediocre-at-best South Bend mayor in his 30s, a white woman who's pretended to be an American Indian and all but lied about having been fired for being pregnant, and a guy in his 70s who bites his wife's finger and jabbers about his leg hairs pointing up and loving having children sit on his lap. Oh, and Sanders, whose schtick has been to grimace and scowl throughout his career but get virtually nothing done (good enough for government work, I guess).

Will this lead to any substantive introspection on the part of Democrats? Prediction: no.

Really?

This is shameful.

HH

What do you expect? You're talking to a group of people who cheerlead a guy who cheated on his 1st wife with his 2nd, cheated on his 2nd with his 3rd, cheated on his 3rd with two porn stars, talks openly about grabbing women by the p*ssy without consent, and has 2 dozen accusations of sexual assault or impropriety against him.

It's not exactly a cohort where respect for women gets top bidding.

Ok, we can agree to disagree.
I think her organizations Fair Fight and Fair Count are striving for things that all Americans should be in support of. The ability to vote fairly and have that vote counted and the ability to be counted in the census. But I’m sure there are people out there who disagree with that, but I won’t change my mind.

Yep, very shameful indeed.

Kamala Harris launched political career with $120K 'patronage' job from boyfriend Willie Brown

Kamala Harris’ first significant political role was an appointment by her powerful then-boyfriend Willie Brown, three decades her senior, to a California medical board that has been criticized as a landing spot for patronage jobs and kickbacks.

Then 30, Harris was dating 60-year-old Willie Brown, at the time the Democratic speaker of the California State Assembly, when he placed her on the California Medical Assistance Commission in 1994. The position paid over $70,000 per year, $120,700 in current money, and Harris served on the board until 1998.

It’s racist to try to suppress minority voter turnout.
It’s also racist to target voter registration efforts only at minorities, right?
I mean the first thing is worse, but they’re both racist.

And those are fine goals, you'll hear no argument from me.

But her rhetoric after losing the gubernatorial election reminded me of what Trump was saying in the run up to 2016 (rigged elections and whatnot). It wasn't OK from him and its not OK from her.

Did you follow what happened in Georgia and what happens around the country? If there is a community that is targeted by closing down their voting stations and removing their names from voter registration registers then in a democracy everyone should want that problem corrected. If you don’t agree then I’m not sure what to say.

I didn’t follow it and I do believe everyone’s right to vote should be protected. I mean I led with that

Ok. So then I’m not sure what you’re talking about and where I said anything about race. And if you don’t know what happened in Georgia or what happens around the country then what is your statement based on?

The government guarantees children have the right to a free public school education. If schools in 1 community had all their schools shut down, then people were fighting to get those schools opened back up that is not racist.

Same thing goes for if polling stations are shut down in 1 community. It’s not racist to help people restore their ability to vote.

I hope everyone who wants to vote anywhere in the country has the ability to do so without difficulty. No ID requirements, no voter suppression tactics. Voting shouldn’t be made more difficult, it should be made easier.

Organizations have every right to register whomever wants to register to vote. Organizations should not block anyone from registering to vote or be counted in the census. Fair Fight and Fair Count are doing the former and not the later.

I followed the voter registration closure controversy. It was much ado about nothing, there were still places to register

In Louisville, Georgia, in October 2018, Black senior citizens were told to get off a bus that was to have taken them to a polling place for early voting. The bus trip was supposed to have been part of the "South Rising" bus tour sponsored by the advocacy group Black Voters Matter. A clerk of the local Jefferson County Commission allegedly called the intended voters' senior center to claim that the bus tour constituted "'political activity,'" which is barred at events sponsored by the county. Latosha Brown, one of the founders of Black Voters Matter, described the trip's prevention as a clear-cut case of "'voter intimidation. This is voter suppression, Southern style.'" The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund sent a letter to the county calling for an "'immediate investigation'" into the incident, which it condemned as "'an unacceptable act of voter intimidation'" that "'potentially violates several laws.'"[94][needs update]

Georgia's Secretary of State, Brian Kemp, the Republican gubernatorial nominee, was the official in charge of determining whether or not voters will be allowed to vote in the November 2018 election and has been accused of voter suppression. Minority voters are statistically more likely to have names that contain hyphens, suffixes or other punctuation that can make it more difficult to match their name in databases, experts noted, and are more likely to have their voter applications suspended by Kemp's office. Barry C. Burden, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and director of its Elections Research Center said, "An unrealistic rule of this sort will falsely flag many legitimate registration forms. Moreover, the evidence indicates that minority residents are more likely to be flagged than are whites." Kemp has suspended the applications of 53,000 voters, a majority of whom are minorities. "Even if everyone who is on a pending list is eventually allowed to vote, it places more hurdles in the way of those voters on the list, who are disproportionately black and Hispanic," said Charles Stewart III, Professor of Political Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

It must just be sheer, dumb coincidence that most voters removed from the rolls as a consequence of southern state voter laws just happen to be mostly black even though those states are only 10-25% black. 🙄

I’m going to call bull on the first story. If the voter group actually thought a govt employee was barring appropriately registered voters the absolute best play would be to show up and dare them to get the police. But I’m going to accuse them of faking this, police can track phone records and should be able to tell if this came from a govt office. There is no was an actual event like this wouldn’t result in them getting a name for who called them...

The second story is also unsubstantiated racially, names with non-letter symbols are harder to track via computer. That’s not racism, it’s bad computer programming. Maybe the guy is racist, who knows? But that doesn’t show it

When I was ready to vote like an adult? Yes

You didn’t answer the question I asked.

Regardless, this is politically motivated voter obstruction. Every American should be against this. I had an Ohio drivers license throughout college and medical school and lawfully voted in Maryland and New York with it.

You didn’t answer the question I asked.

Regardless, this is politically motivated voter obstruction. Every American should be against this. I had an Ohio drivers license throughout college and medical school and lawfully voted in Maryland and New York with it.

Do you qualify for in state tuition if you go to school there for one year?

I did answer. When I voted, my ID matched my actual location. If you don't care enough to have ID showing that you belong in a jurisdiction for voting, you shouldn't be able to vote there. That's not politically motivated, that's logic because both your identity and your status as a resident of a particular geographical area are requirements to vote in elections

The question I asked was, “did you get a local drivers license while you were in college?”
