Horowitz’s report revealed there were at least 17 "significant inaccuracies and omissions" in the Page FISA applications.

The report said that the FISA applications for Page omitted information that the FBI had obtained from another U.S. government agency detailing its prior relationship with Page, "including that Page had been approved as an 'operational contact' for the other agency from 2008 to 2013."

Another error in the applications was the inclusion of a "source characterization statement asserting that [Christopher] Steele's prior reporting had been 'corroborated and used in criminal proceedings,' which overstated the significance of Steele's past reporting and was not approved by Steele’s handling agent." Christopher Steele is the British ex-spy whose unverified Trump dossier was used to help justify the warrants.

The FISA applications also omitted information regarding the reliability of a key Steele "sub-source," the report said.

Notably, the FISA application also omitted Page's "consensually monitored statements to an FBI" confidential human source saying he "literally never met" Manafort, as well as Papadopoulos' consensually monitored statement to the FBI "denying that anyone associated with the Trump campaign was collaborating with Russia or with outside groups like WikiLeaks in the release of emails."

If there are FISA problems, fix them. At the end of the day, the judges still deemed the totality of the evidence to be sufficient for warrants. At the end of the day, Page wasn’t charged. You can gaslight all you want, but it’s impossible to ignore the IG report saying no political bias played a role in the investigation.

The former MI6 officer Christopher Steele had a “personal” relationship with Ivanka Trump and gifted her a “family tartan from Scotland” as a present, the long-awaited report by US Department of Justice inspector general, Michael Horowitz, revealed on Monday.

Horowitz’s review of the FBI’s 2016 investigation into Donald Trump’s 2016 election campaign and its links with Russia includes fresh details of Steele’s interactions with the FBI, and startling claims about his relationship with the Trumps dating back to the period before he wrote a controversial dossier on Trump.

The report did not mention Ivanka Trump by name but her identity was revealed by ABC News.

The report said that contrary to what Donald Trump has claimed on Twitter, Steele was actually “favorably disposed” to the Trump family. It was “ridiculous” to suggest he was biased against the then Republican candidate or that his memos on collusion, written at the behest of the Washington-based research firm Fusion GPS, were in any way biased, Steele told federal investigators.

Steele said he had visited Ivanka Trump at Trump Tower and had been “friendly” with her for “some years”. He described their relationship as “personal”. The former British government spy had even given her a “family tartan from Scotland” as a present, the report quoted him as saying.

ABC also reported that Ivanka Trump even discussed work that Steele’s firm – Orbis Business Intelligence – might do for the Trump family business.

Earlier this year Steele met with members of the inspector general’s team in London and spoke to investigators via Skype. He handed over memos setting out his two meetings in 2016 with the FBI, in which he passed on his dossier which said that the Russians had been seeking to cultivate Trump for some years, and had secretly compromised him in a Moscow hotel room.

Horowitz’s conclusions were sent to Orbis ahead of the report’s publication on Monday. This prompted Steele to issue an unusual statement via his lawyers pushing back against some of the inspector general’s key claims.

The report concludes the FBI placed too much emphasis on Steele’s work. It said Steele’s reporting was not done “in bad faith” but sometimes showed a “lack of judgement” and could involve pursuing people with “political risk but no intelligence value”.

On Monday Steele’s Washington-based law firm, Bredhoff & Kaiser, issued a lengthy rebuttal of Horowitz’s findings and defended Steele’s professional work.

It said that the Trump-Russia memos written by Steele in 2016 were derived from “credible and reliable” human sources. Subsequently his reporting was “extensively corroborated”, the lawyers said.

Some of this confirmation came from testimony given by Carter Page, Trump’s former foreign policy aide.

Page is at the centre of the Horowitz review. The president appointed Horowitz after Republicans claimed Page was the victim of “illegal” FBI spying in 2016, with a surveillance warrant issued by a federal court in part because of the dossier. The report finds that the FBI made multiple mistakes and errors in its handling of the Page case.

Page admitted that in 2016 he met with senior officials from the Kremlin and the oil firm Rosneft in Moscow. This was what the dossier reported, Steele’s lawyers pointed out. They added that Steele’s memos – published by BuzzFeed – were never “meant to be made public”. The report further quotes Steele as saying his field work was meant to be “briefed off of orally” rather than consumed as a “written product”.

Donald Trump has repeatedly blasted Steele on Twitter, describing him as a “failed spy” and his dossier as “phoney”.

The dossier says Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, launched a multi-faceted campaign to boost Trump ahead of the 2016 election. Robert Mueller confirmed “sweeping and systematic” Russian interference but did not establish that Trump had engaged in a criminal-level conspiracy.

FBI Director Christopher Wray on Monday dismissed conspiracy theories pushed by allies of President Trump — including some Republican members of Congress — that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election.

Wray said in an interview with ABC News that Russian agents represented the clearest threat both in 2016 and in the upcoming presidential election next year.

“We have no information that indicates that Ukraine interfered with the 2016 presidential election,” Wray told ABC.

"As far as the [2020] election itself goes, we think Russia represents the most significant threat," he continued.

Wray's remarks come as senators including John Kennedy (R-La.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) have suggested that Ukraine may have been involved in efforts on behalf of Hillary Clinton in 2016 during the presidential election, accusations which have been roundly dismissed by the intelligence community.

The unfounded accusation of supposed Ukrainian election meddling comes as allies of the president have sought to offer explanations for Trump's July phone call with Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Trump appeared to press Zelensky to open criminal investigations into that interference, as well as former Vice President Joe Biden (D), a top 2020 candidate, and his son Hunter.

Democrats have argued that the call, which has become the centerpiece of the House's impeachment inquiry, represented a solicitation directly from Trump for foreign assistance in a presidential election.

Wray's Monday interview came the same day the Department of Justice's inspector general released its long-awaited report on the origins of the FBI's investigations into Trump campaign associates in 2016.

Wray told ABC News that it is "important that the inspector general found that, in this particular instance, the investigation was opened with appropriate predication and authorization."

His comments also came hours after GOP counsel Stephen Castor said both Russia and Ukraine interfered in the 2016 U.S. elections in his testimony before the House Judiciary Committee.

If you're Trump or a supporter, you've got to be looking at this pretty optimistically. Trump is polling quite well in them and he doesn't even have an opponent yet. He's beating out Warren in a majority of polls (although she's currently dropping like a rock). Biden continues to be most likely nominee and as I've already said, him on stage for several hours side-by-side with Trump is going to get very ugly

You can't look at single polls..You have to look at them in the aggregate. And as of right now, when even ruby red states like GA and TX are competitive, that's saying something.

Also remember that for no matter who you support, the election is a lifetime away.

fivethirtyeight gives Optimus polling a C/D rating with a R mean bias of 1.3. I'm guessing the rating is low because their N is low, their error is worse, they don't do predominantly live calling, and because they don't follow polling standards and guidelines from NCPP etc

Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to properly run an organization, has the patience and leadership skills of a toddler, surrounds himself with people of very questionable competence and quality, who serve mostly as a court for the king, and generally does a pretty bad job as a president (the country keeps chugging away just because of the thousands and thousands nameless and faceless hard-working competent professionals in the federal government, military etc., the ones he hasn't chased away yet). It's proof that we do have a GREAT system of government in a GREAT country. We are where we are DESPITE what he has done, not BECAUSE of it. It's pretty heartbreaking.

His only merit (as far as his platform is concerned) is naming very conservative judges and justices, and producing similar level executive orders (especially about pardoning convicted or almost-convicted criminals). The toddler is playing king and we are all suffering the consequences. The man does not have the proper personality to be president, to inspire and lead the country, the same way he shouldn't be an anesthesiologist either. His personality fit is right only for being a pampered elderly millionaire.

To add to this, there are also a ton of people who voted for Trump for his attitude towards established government and established media.

There is deep seated hatred of oppressive government and of the state media that supports it. In the past, the hatred was directed towards the fiscal irresponsibility of government, with success for politicians promising to take it down (Tea Party). Now, the hatred is just of government (deep state, corruption at FBI and CIA).

Miller flagged “The Camp of the Saints,” a book popular among white nationalists and neo-Nazis, to the conservative website on Sept. 6, 2015, when he was an aide to then-Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

“The Camp of the Saints” by Jean Raspail first came out in France in 1973, and the novel gradually gained popularity among extremists for its fictionalization of the “great replacement” or “white genocide” myth. The Social Contract Press, a white nationalist publishing firm, began distributing the book in the United States in 1994. But it wasn’t until Donald Trump became president in January 2017 that it achieved any association with the White House.

Here’s a breakdown of the novel’s racist content and the role Miller played in promoting it:

A Dystopian View of Immigration
A wave of nonwhite immigration into France triggers a dystopian reality in “The Camp of the Saints” in much the same way that privatization of public resources figures into the 1987 Paul Verhoeven film, “RoboCop,” or government control does in George Orwell’s novel “1984.”

In “The Camp of the Saints,” masses of Indian people storm France as refugees, led by a nonwhite antagonist referred to as the “turd eater.” He eats human feces “in time of famine” and physically plays with it using his hands, according to one passage. He is described as a “monster” and “giant” with “stinking hands.” White nationalists, such as the writers of the neo-Nazi website Daily Stormer, commonly associate people from South Asia and the Arab world with defecation. Neo-Nazis have also promoted “The Camp of the Saints.” Joseph Jordan, who writes for extremist websites under the byline “Eric Striker,” compared the book to “The Turner Diaries.” That book by William Luther Pierce reportedly played a role in influencing bomber Timothy McVeigh, who killed 168 people in Oklahoma City in 1995.

Jordan suggested in a March 7, 2017, Daily Stormer story that the only difference between the two books was “The Turner Diaries” naming Jews as an enemy of whites.

“ ‘Camp of the Saints’ is only slightly more sophisticated than ‘The Turner Diaries,’ yet the former is circulated in mainstream conservative circles while the latter is not,” Jordan wrote, referring to the controversy then surrounding Bannon.

“Aside from the cartoony violence of William Pierce’s novel, the only key factor that separates the two is ‘Camp of the Saints’ names every single group and race except the Jew.”
