Lol, what??? Uhhhh, yes, genius, it does, since the motivations and target selection of a thoroughly corrupt prosecutor are essentially worthless in regard to any real judicial value. Like...do I really need to explain to you why corrupt judges have their verdicts and sentences overturned? Let me know...I can go back to language meant for a 7 yr old if needed.

Just bookmark this section of the thread and refer back to it when this all comes back to bite Biden in the ass down the road. That's all I ask.

Done. I’ll store it right next to this other wildly accurate prediction you made

Wow, big man. You pointed out that I can't predict the stock and commodity markets perfectly. What shame I feel now for not being Nostradamus. Excuse me while I go cry for a bit and gather my thoughts...

Oh, and also, if even CNBC can admit it, you can too. Don't worry, you won't lose your lefty pass.

"Yeah, so it’s likely no laws are technically being broken. But the spirit of campaign finance and bribery laws is being trashed thoroughly. Of course the voters are not alone in knowing this has been the case for some time.

Back in 2014, many of the same Democrats who are now defending the Bidens now were decrying the indirect influence lobbyists and corporations were gaining by paying off politicians’ relatives. It would be great if they had the intellectual honesty to be just as outraged by the very appearance of impropriety in the Biden case as they appear to be in response to everything they don’t like about President Trump."

Lil Biden gets paid a cool million per year from a state-run Ukrainian company while Big Joe is the one pulling the strings in Ukraine. Lil is the lawyer for a corrupt real estate tycoon in Romania while Big Joe is heavily involved in Romania. Lil Joe gets on the advisory board or an investment company and wrangles up 1.5 billion in investments from China while Joe is in office, and now he stands to make millions from his stake in the company.

Look away look away nothing to see here. Nope. You're an idiot if you think any of that looks sketchy eh Vec?

"Yeah, so it’s likely no laws are technically being broken.

I stopped reading there.

——
May 16, 2019: Yuriy Lutsenko, the current prosecutor general, tells Bloomberg News that neither Hunter Biden nor Burisma was now the focus of an investigation. “Hunter Biden did not violate any Ukrainian laws — at least as of now, we do not see any wrongdoing. A company can pay however much it wants to its board.”

——

And I know your reading comprehension is still extremely poor, so I’ll remind you that my post from October which you said you missed already discussed how I think boards and lobbyists on corporate boards are a sleazy (albeit lawful) enterprise.

What I take issue with is your and the right’s sad, deliberate attempt to conflate blasé corporate ethical concerns with the “drug deal” extortion and unlawful withholding of congressionally approved funds that trump, his personal lawyer, and his secret cabal tried to execute in Ukraine. It’s a scheme they almost got away with except the whistleblower report became public and the aid was released 2 days *after* their hand was caught in the cookie jar.

Great, we are on the same page that Hunter and Joe Biden didn’t break any laws. Shall we move on to Trump’s wantonly illegal behavior?

Oh, you mean like when he asked the Ukrainians to investigate corruption? Kinda sounds like what you were talking about with that Joe guy and some prosecutor....

No, the part where he didn’t ask about any other corruption other than a manufactured plot involving his political rival, and the part where he illegally withheld $400m in congressionally approved aid until the Ukrainian president went along with his extortion plan (or actually, until the plan was exposed by the whistleblower)

Oh like the other corruption that he didn't ask about like crowdstrike and his reference to the Muller report? Like that nothing? Oh yeah yeah, then there was that condition of the $400 million that he never told Zelensky about, right right right...

I'm glad I have you hear to help me when I forget the details about stuff. Thanks ace.

Seems like as good a time as any to end this current round of tedious back and forth since apparently we've reached the point where matty forgets/ignores everything that was just discussed and just reverts to lizard brain trmp chanting. My main takeaways tho:

1. It’s incontestable that it was *US govt, Ukrainian govt, EU, and IMF* consensus that Shokin was corrupt as sin and had to go, and that Biden was merely executing this shared official policy.

2. Matty himself posted a CNBC article stating that “Yeah, so it’s likely no laws are technically being broken” in regard to the Bidens

To each his own I guess.

Here's to four more years

I thought this reply from FedEx CEO Frederick Smith was interesting:

“The New York Times published a distorted and factually incorrect story on the front page of the Sunday, November 17 edition concerning FedEx and our billions of dollars of tax payments and billions of dollars of investments in the U.S. economy. Pertinent to this outrageous distortion of the truth is the fact that unlike FedEx, the New York Times paid zero federal income tax in 2017 on earnings of $111 million, and only $30 million in 2018 – 18% of their pretax book income. Also in 2018 the New York Times cut their capital investments nearly in half to $57 million, which equates to a rounding error when compared to the $6 billion of capital that FedEx invested in the U.S. economy during that same year.”

“I hereby challenge A.G. Sulzberger, publisher of the New York Times and the business section editor to a public debate in Washington, DC with me and the FedEx corporate vice president of tax. The focus of the debate should be federal tax policy and the relative societal benefits of business investments and the enormous intended benefits to the United States economy, especially lower and middle class wage earners.“

Clearly media companies are not saints. I’m glad he called them out. And I’m glad both companies are being called out for not reinvesting their tax savings which is the intent of corporate tax cuts.

I’m curious to see if the NYT will accept the invitation for a debate. Hell, will they even acknowledge the challenge on their own paper?

I think corporate tax cuts are to make them competitive internationally and/or to facilitate dividend payments to their wealthy investors.

Right?
I’m not understanding how if Hunter Biden did something wrong the correct answer is how Trump handled it?!
Hunter Biden is not the president.

Why is the excuse always "but someone else!!!!”

Just like but her emails.
The brainwashing is real.

They're two separate issues. Joe and Lil Biden OBVIOUSLY were working the system and getting ill gotten $$$ for Hunter in Ukraine, Romania and China. Trump wanted their sketchy dealings investigated. He has that right, and even an obligation, as president to investigate foreign corruption. Until there's proof of bribery (which there is not currently), its just investigating foreign corruption.

Its ok, not everything Trump does is evil.

That response by FedEx was nothing but a publicity stunt aimed at distracting from the real problem. Of course the media company that owns the NYT benefitted from the tax cut. The fact remains that since the tax cuts went into place we’ve seen $1 trillion in stock buy backs that, much of which was done with insider trading to enrich CEOs and major shareholders. That’s some awesome reinvestment into the American economy. 🙄

Then we scratch our heads and wonder why a politician like Warren or Sanders is gaining in popularity and the progressives keep moving left.

Yep exactly.
And how convenient that the individual tax cuts are set to expire in 2025, while the corporate tax cuts were voted in as permanent. LOL for days that trump cares about the poor and working class.

Both sides are entrenched and all these posts are pointless. Trump made an error/mistake in asking Zelensky for a "favor" in that phone call. The GOP and I don't think he should be impeached over it and certainly not removed from office. The "haters" who have been waiting 3 years to Impeach Trump think otherwise and will use this poor judgement to impeach him.

The end result is another show in the Senate where Trump is not removed from office. Before any liberals start whining about the politics of keeping Trump I would like once again to point Bill Clinton circa 1998. The Senate didn't remove Clinton for lying about a blow job (under oath) and the Senate won't remove Trump for being an idiot on a phone call.

This leaves the upcoming election where we the citizens will decide who is President in 2020.

I really do appreciate your level headedness in all of this and I agree with most of your posts. And yes, the back and forth on here is a bit silly and pointless. I just get tired of the self-assuredness and absolute confidence in the left's assessment that Trump has and always will be a crook, a racist, a bigot, etc etc etc and that he for sure committed some treasonous impeachable act, all the while, completely denying any ounce of bias from the media, from the ridiculous Schiff show that's going on, and from their own assessment of the situation. Not to mention absolving the Bidens of any impropriety when they so obviously leveraged papa joe's position for their family's enrichment....

Trump's support in Iowa among GOP members is over 85%. Vector2 can dream all he wants about Trump's removal from office but the Senate will likely be a strictly partisan vote. Trump will declare "exoneration" and Vector2 will have to go back daydreaming about a communist Warren victory next November.

This "Sh#T show" is a waste of time because the GOP and the vast majority of its members are with Trump. Yes, the phone call was "improper" and "wrong" but no more so than the Russia hoax and FISA court documents. GOP members are tired of Dems trying to impeach Trump. Elections have consequences so the only way to get Trump out of office is to beat him at the ballot box.

Well at least someone can admit that trump did something wrong! That is definitely not something that happens often, if ever. It just seems so counterintuitive to me that he ran on a platform of draining the swamp and now several of his associates are in jail and he certainly has questionable ethical behavior. How do rational people reconcile that? Deflect, deflect. He’s done a great job with his platform to get people to never ever turn on him!

But anyway I’ve been following the testimony so am waiting to see how things unfold in regards to impeachment and what my opinion on it is. However, I do think it’s their duty to investigate. He definitely won’t get removed from office as you said. Voting matters! (As does fighting voter suppression).

You guys keep screaming this nonsense and claiming he can shoot someone or whatever and no one will ever stop liking him or think he’s capable of wrong doing. It’s untrue and many people here, myself included, have criticized him and said we disagree with him. For example, I think the fact that he’s had so much turnover in his staff is kinda pathetic and shows some bad judgement, or at the very least just provides a bad optic. You (and others here) seem to think everyone who supports trump is blind and/or stupid. However, what you fail to realize is that most of us just see that a flawed Trump is still 10x better than the alternative.

Do you really expect a Trump supporter to run from him and start voting for leftist chaos just cause he might have had some shady dealings investigated that might have crossed the line in how he asked for them to be investigated, when there was an obvious reason for any sane person to take a look?

Yea, sure thing blade. Clinton getting a BJ and Trump/his cabal coming up with a secret plan to withhold 400 million of aid to one of Russia's enemies in an attempt to extort political gain are the same things. Your false equivalence is pathetic.

I have no illusions that he'll get acquitted because the party of Trump is as craven as he is. We all know, though, that even the GOP senate would vote him out if the vote were blind, but they fear his ability to get them primaried or cause them collateral political damage. Dems should impeach him irrespective of whether it'll hurt or help their political chances because that's what the facts currently dictate, and bc the US needs a historical record for future generations that not everyone turned a blind eye toward rampant corruption in this administration.

Rampant corruption huh?

Lemme ask you, what honestly bothers you the most about the whole Ukraine thing? Is it that you think he was trying to get a political edge by using his power as president? Is that the corrupt part? Are you mad cause you think Biden is completely innocent and you think it’s wrong for Trump to force an investigation on an innocent person? Or do you think he was trying to get the Ukraine to drum up some fake dirt (ala HRC and the Steele dossier) that would hurt a political opponent? If Biden wasn’t running in 2020, would you care at all about Trump's interactions with Zelensky? What’s the real issue with all this? Or is it just an overall disgust with Trump and now here’s something to hang him on?

Yep when Jeff Flake said that 35 senators would vote to remove trump if the vote was secret I wasn’t surprised. But what cowards if that is true. So much for checks and balances.

Every single republican who is still in the circle -aka every single republican in office who has something left to lose- they all get down on their knees and suck trump off at every opportunity. Every republican who has left politics or who has left the party - aka the people who can no longer be hurt by Trump (Flake, Corker, Amash, Jolly, Kristol, Scarborough, Schmidt, Wallace, the anonymous author of the op-ed) - tell us about what an amoral, corrupt, ignorant horrorshow trump is. Only a ***** would believe the former category of people are the ones painting an accurate picture.

Manafort - jail
Cohen - jail
Papadopoulous - jail
Flynn - convicted
Gates - convicted
Stone - convicted
Giuliani - under investigation by the very office he used to work for

Record turnover in cabinet and cabinet level positions to a level which dwarfs the last three administrations combined, with many of these people such as Zinke, Pruitt, or Price resigning due to impropriety or grift. Rick Perry just resigned because he's about to be caught up in the Ukraine scandal. 900 emails about Stephen Miller reveal (to nobody's surprise) that he's a nazi. Mueller report essentially stated Trump committed obstruction of justice but since he can't be indicted per DOJ rules they thought they couldn't say as much. Trump thinks he's getting off scot-free so he extorts the Ukrainian president into committing more foreign interference into our elections.

Yea, that's what I'd call rampant corruption.

Did Trump commit obstruction of justice kind of like he’s committed witness intimidation?

Or like some kind of actual crime?

"The president has proposed doing away with judges on more than one occasion. Too many of his policies are getting stuck in legal limbo, he says. “Can we just get rid of the judges? Let’s get rid of the f---ing judges,” Trump fumed one morning. “There shouldn’t be any at all, really.” He went a step further and asked his legal team to draft up a bill and send it to Congress to reduce the number of federal judges. Staff ignored the outburst and the wacky request."

Lmao, yea this guy is the pinnacle of anti-corruption.

Also why is Giuliani all up in US foreign affairs/policy?! I shouldn’t be surprised, but I didn’t realize how intertwined he was in our foreign policy as trump’s personal attorney. Why is that ok?

Anonymous books, secret whistle blowers, hearsay witnesses, a media and entire political class hell bent on impeachment since day 1 in office. How come every American isn’t convinced that he’s pure evil?!?! Stupid Americans...

And so the central effort of Republican politics in November 2019 is attempting to cover up or distract from Republican embarrassment at the failures, both ethical and practical, of the Trump administration: The same Republicans who indicted Barack Obama over 2.5 percent economic growth now insist that the economy is “booming” at 1.9 percent growth. (Take a look at the chart if you want a real sense of our growth trends.) That “great and easy to win” trade war with China has U.S. manufacturing in a recession and has decimated the farm economy. Its point was supposedly to alter the balance of trade, but the trade deficit is larger today than when Trump took office, not smaller. (The trade deficit is the wrong criterion, but it is the one Trump and his allies have chosen.) In fact, we have an all time historical trade imbalance with China that is heavily in a China‘s favor.

The great recalibration of U.S. foreign policy has not happened. The Trump administration cannot even work up the commitment to enforce its own sanctions on Huawei. (The Chinese telecom company has just been offered yet another reprieve.) Trump bested the Republican establishment in the 2016 presidential primary, and his two great achievements as president have been signing the tax bill that Jeb Bush would have signed and appointing the judges Ted Cruz would have appointed. He rage-tweets all evening while the actual affairs of state are carried out in the main by holdovers from previous Republican administrations, to the extent that they are able to work amid the chaos and incompetence around them.

So, tell me empirically and not with anecdotal personal opinion on how Trump is ten times better? And before you blast the above, it’s the editorial opinion of the conservative National Review.

Because of prison reform, border security, Dow at all time highs, Supreme Court justices, black unemployment 1/2 of what it was under Obama, lowest unemployment overall in decades, cheap gas, rising wages - especially for low income earners.

Because the left wants to control speech, confiscate guns, increase entitlements, open the border, cry over climate hysteria.....

Need I go on?

Again, how does that equate to ten times better? That does not nominally equate to an economy ten times better and in fact, his trade in-balance combined with his rather socialistic government giveaways to farmers will soon exceed over 30 billion and the tax cuts certainly one, did not pay for themselves, and two, did not benefit the average worker, and thus negates whatever economic progress he wants to claim.

Sorry, 8.7x better if you want to be exact.

More specifically, 6.1x better than HRC and 10x better than either Warren or Sanders, for an average better was of 8.7x better vs alternative

Black voices for trump advisory board member Clarence Weaver has said in regards to women:

Women aren’t equal to men and that they damaged society when they won the “‘right’ to leave the home and go to work.” He has claimed that women who report sexual misconduct at work are the reason “why we don’t want to be around you in a business.” And he has told women that they should carry themselves as “handmaidens” and “be submissive.”

Indeed, but I’m sure Matty will be sure to tell both black folks and women how they should feel and that we are living under some uber-sensitive tent that does not serve us and we should get over it....

Amazing how people’s minds get refreshed when they realize they could get indicted for perjury

“ In hindsight, I now understand that others saw the idea of investigating possible corruption involving the Ukrainian company Burisma as equivalent to investigating former Vice President Biden," Volker said, adding, "In retrospect, I should have seen that connection differently, and had I done so, I would have raised my own objections" to any investigation of the Bidens.”

Kurt Volker, citing Biden link, becomes latest witness to revise testimony

“Volker repeatedly emphasized during his remarks he did not believe the allegations against Biden to be credible.

I have known former Vice President Biden for 24 years, and the suggestion that he would be influenced in his duties as vice president by money for his son simply has no credibility to me. I know him as a man of integrity and dedication to our country,” Volker said during his testimony.

Volker also testified that he told Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani that accusations against the former vice president and 2020 Democratic candidate were “not credible.”

——
Tim Morrison testified that he was "not concerned that anything illegal was discussed" during Trump's July 25 call with Zelensky, but worried it would cause a political storm if the transcript became public. Morrison, the former senior director for Europe and Ukraine at the National Security Council, told the committee that "I feared at the time of the call on July 25 how its disclosure would play in Washington's climate." He continued: "My fears have been realized." Morrison also said Sondland told him that "the Ukrainians would have to have the prosecutor general make a statement" about investigations as a "condition" for receiving security aid. When asked if he agreed that pressuring "a foreign government to investigate a domestic political rival [was] inappropriate," Morrison replied: "It is not what we recommend the president discuss." (Politico / Washington Post / Bloomberg / Wall Street Journal / CNN / New York Times)

——

Lol, which Einstein on the gop side thought Volker and Morrison would be good witnesses for them....
