So glad you are concerned about governmental waste:

Remember that EVERY DAY of presidential visit costs ONE MILLION dollars. The damage this president is doing to the country never ends.

Remember when trump was so critical of Obama playing golf and said he’d never play golf while president?! Not only is he playing golf but at his own properties at a high rate. Yep he certainly cares about the American people. The joke is certainly on us!

Again, you don’t/can’t dispute any of the FACTS I posted. Facts that show exactly how the nonsense so-called consensus was derived, and how it is in no way a consensus. And instead of addressing the facts that I posted, you post your own article to attack? Sweet tactic.

When you have no argument, you lash out and ad hominem attack.

‘Dimwits, crackpots, deniers....”

Par for the course.

And you wrap it up with a false notion that anyone is supporting pollution.

Maybe you should’ve just left it with “Happy Thanksgiving” and thought some more about this subject and do some more research.

Tell us why why the
Bad culture. Fear of speaking truth to power. Definitely not the kind of mentality that founded the country.

Unfortunately, in the 21st century, presidential powers (and abuses) have been extended beyond the intentions of the founders, the so-called imperial presidency. So it makes sense that Americans have started treating the office of president as if it were emperor.

I don't think I have ever heard of a president overruling military justice (for, basically, electoral purposes) in ANY democracy. And that's just one drop in the ocean.

The trumpists are deplorable, more than ever.
Indeed.

Presidents are not kings,” Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson wrote in the course of ordering former White House counsel Don McGahn to comply with a congressional demand that he testify in the impeachment inquiry. Judge Jackson is perhaps too optimistic: Absolutist rhetoric notwithstanding, few if any kings of old ever aspired to the scope of real-world power exercised by American presidents. There has never been a kingdom quite like this one.

So, who wrote this blunt provocation — hippies, liberal socialists at Oberlin, nope the the tried and true conservatives at the National Review—so very telling.

Trump takes credit for so much under his reign, whether he has only marginally assisted in it’s advance or just happen to be in the White House at the time, thus it begs the question, will he also lay claim to these as well:

He asks twice. Relevant portion starts at 3:36 and he asks again at 6:06. It appears these ladies were too polite to tell him the actual answer. And he’s the President of the United States of America. How did this happen?

This is not devastatingly stupid. He could easily be wondering why women's suffrage wasn't officially commemorated sooner. (It may or may not have been; I don't care.) But, of course, it's also not beyond the bounds of reason to chalk this up as a gaffe.

Most likely explanation is that it's Trump being Trump: egotistical and wont to exaggeration of his accomplishments ("maybe the greatest ever", "something nobody else has been able to do", etc.). Things we knew about him before we voted for him, and are baked-in flaws.

He virulently hates all the same people and things that his voters hate, but unlike most politicians he has absolutely zero decorum so he just comes right on out and says it. One thing his campaign was brilliant at was selling the divisive narrative that "our tribe" is getting devastated by "their tribe" and that he was the only one that could offer protection.

Also tax breaks.

True, we both hate the Swamp.

There's virtually nothing on which he campaigned that was false.

Almost as much as you hate and despise conservatives? Do you honestly believe all the angry things you post?

So sad for you bro.

"Tried and true conservatives..."

Please.

NRO is useless, and its writers are effete losers who conserve nothing. The only principle at NRO is perennial tax rate reduction, and its loyal reader base is basically entirely committed to that agenda.

So, are you suggesting that you represent the primacy of the party, because the last I looked it has the largest readership and subscription for those aligned to conservative politics....it’s akin to saying Bostonians no longer hold or support the Red Sox dear,,,,

The part about how he compares to past presidents is eye-opening.

I think politics changed since those other presidents were in office, thanks to intersectionality.

It’s not really. I’d say it’s a result of the 24/7 media bashing him mercilessly and spinning everything he says and does as evil for 3 straight years. I’d say that’s worth at least a handful of approval points....

And yeah, they did that for little Bush somewhat, but not anywhere near what they’ve been doing to Trump.

White supremacy has been around ever since the Democrat party founded the KKK.
Pity it now seems to have a strong voice in the president, his base, and the Republican party.

The Republican party used to be the Grand Old Party for a reason. Now it's only old.

Dude gimme a break bud. You used to be so reasonable, and now your accusing them president of being a white supremacist. When you make accusations like that, it puts you in the same intellectual camp as flat earths and people who call Obama an evil Muslim communist.

Thank gods I am not in the same camp with the people who think Obama was not born American.

I've been a lifelong Independent voter. I highly dislike the 2 party system and feel that it is designed to keep Americans divided into 2 tribes. I vote for the person I believe to be the best choice of the candidates running. I've voted for people from both parties. For example, I voted for Obama in 2008 because there was little known about him at the time, and my sixth sense warned me that McCain, ever the warmonger, would probably get us into WWIII. After Obama's 1st term, I voted Romney, as he was the better choice in my mind.

The overwhelming majority of Americans are NOT in favor of white supremacy. I would say those that belong to this mindset is pretty infantismal. To suggest that Trump, his WH staff, or his American supporters are white supremacists is disingenuous in my opinion. For I honestly see no evidence to support this claim. I've heard what others claim, but I don't agree.

What I do believe in are facts of history that include:
The Confederacy was started by the Democrat Party.
The KKK was started by the Democrat Party.
Robert Byrd was a Democrat Senator for 51 years and a member of the KKK.
HRC said this at the passing of Byrd:

And my opinion:
The Democrat policies and leadership have done very little to advance the causes of the minority communities. They SAY they do, but their actions have not resulted in good positive change. There is a reason that people say "Free yourself from the Democrat Plantation" to African-American voters. "Blexit" is a real thing.

I can't imagine what it's like to live life thinking that everyone else must be morally bankrupt if they have their own opinions.
I can't imagine what it's like to live life thinking that everyone else must be intellectually inferior because they think differently.
I can't imagine what it's like to be so invested in a narrative that you'd be unwilling to consider new information or points of view.
I can't imagine what it's like to have the need to slur people who you dislike or with whom you disagree.
I can't imagine what it's like to have such hubris, myopia, and hatred in my heart.

What this country needs most is unity. The way I look at it is, you're either part of the problem or part of the solution. And I am NOT talking about how a person is choosing to vote. I'm talking about how a person is choosing to live. Peace.

Thank gods I am not in the same camp with the people who think Obama was not born American.

Totally. It’s so much better to accuse someone of being a horrid racist than it is to think they were born in a different country.

You may be independent, and you may think you are neutral, but you're either uninformed, misinformed, or disinformed.

Trump has decades of history of discrimination under his belt. There is zero doubt there (his past actions speak clearly). One can debate how many in his base share his views...

You speak about unity. Does Trump seem to you like somebody who cares about that (as long as it's not about unity in adulation)?

You didn't get the sarcasm. Trump got the sympathy of his base at first with his birtherist theories about Obama.

Trump IS a racist; no doubt about that (except for people who think like him). His (companies') past actions speak for that. His mental models speak for that.

As I said before, most people who believe in conspiracy theories (i.e. paranoid) are either unusually smart or usually dumb (average or lower IQ). Since the latter are much more numerous, and since he traffics in conspiracy theories, I'll let you draw the conclusion.

So the man had a slip of the tongue. Truly comparable to all the garbage and lies we've been hearing for the last 3 years, indeed.

I can get that one disagrees with most of Obama's policies (I did too). But to even consider putting Obama and Trump in the same sentence, as presidential quality goes, speaks volumes. Bye!

And yet you keep defending a president (and a base) who does exactly that on a daily basis. Thank you for articulating it so clearly.

You probably know the saying: "tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are". It's one thing to have voted for Trump for lack of better choice, it's totally different to rationalize it and defend what he's doing to our democracy on a daily basis like his base does.

I know how autocracy looks; this is how it begins. So no, I will not just hug the idiots who are doing this to my country, just because our road to hell is paved with their good intentions.

You're right, you can't compare them, not fair to Trump at all!

Obamacare
Stagnant post recession recovery
Fast and Furious
IRS targeting conservatives
Spygate
Iran's pallet of cash
ISIS
"Arab Spring"
Libya
Failure in North Korea
High taxes
Clinton email server debacle

Trump will go down in history as a very bad prez. Character and image dictates. Even Nixon had a large, large base supporting him, but bases disintegrate in a few decades, and future generations judge them as a piece of history. History will not be kind to Trump.

History is written by the winners. We may not be around to offer the other (true) side of the story. Just look at how he distorts everything, even lies about his own words.

The communists brainwashed their peoples exactly like Trump is trying to do with his base. This is a man with a mission, and that mission is to become dictator (the Putin model). He's doing everything others have successfully done for that, historically: conspiracy theories, Us vs Them, destroy trust in authority, justice, press, build a personality cult etc.

The part about how he compares to past presidents is eye-opening.
I think it's more telling that his approval rating has significantly less variability than everyone else.

I said I am a registered Independent voter. In present time, I don't claim to be neutral in who I support. I am pro-Trump. I voted for him in 2016, and I will vote for him again in 2020. I am pro-Trump precisely because I AM informed.

I don't turn away any information. I watch and read it all. You learn from what likeminded people are saying, and you also learn from what your adversaries are saying. Sometimes by listening to your adversaries (those with whom you disagree) you learn the most.

Some of Trump's flaws that you point out, I agree with. He is a human with flaws. But it's all about scale to me. I feel that many are arguing about the color of the drapes while the house is burning down. With the corrupt swamp that he is attempting to drain, and the corrupt media that trash talks him every single day, I support him.

Sometimes you have to take a step back to gain a proper perspective on things. It's like standing 4 inches away from van Gogh's The Starry Night painting and saying "Yeah, so, what is it?" If you find yourself saying "WTF is going on?" "How can this be real life?" "I just don't get why anyone can support Trump?" I suggest doing this:
1) Take a few days' hiatus from the news. Take a deep breath. Don't watch, don't read, don't discuss politics. Don't even come to this thread.
2) Be in the moment. Observe. How is the world around you functioning? Are people happy or hurting? What do you see with your own eyes?
3) After a few days, continue your usual news hiatus except choose 1 news source that you may not typically watch/listen/read and spend an hour or 2 each day for a few days listening and observing this point of view. Compare and contrast.

1 week without your "political drug" (usual news) won't kill you. It's doable. And it might be very eye-opening. It would be a shame to miss out on the true beauty of The Starry Night which is quite stunning in real life

I hear you. Unfortunately, one can't make a deal with the devil and not suffer the consequences.

Btw, I am much less brainwashed than you think. I just think character is destiny, and I have no doubts about this man's character (based on his actions). I will vote for whoever I think will respect and defend the Constitution, a president not a king.

I hear you. Unfortunately, one can't make a deal with the devil and not suffer the consequences.
I don't understand what this means. Are you saying that because I support Trump ("the devil") I deserve to suffer consequences? And those consequences would be what? Harassment? Name-calling? Demonization?

No. I am talking about where he's taking this country. The erosion of our democracy is real, and the damage will be long-lasting, even if he's not reelected. Gods protect all of us if he is.

The bargain with the devil I was referring to is a long-standing motif in many cultures (e.g. selling one's soul to him). It basically says that you can't make a deal with the devil on your terms. Once you make the deal, it's on the devil's terms.

Oh, ok. Yes, I gladly accept all of the consequences of supporting Trump. No problem. Gladly.

And with that, I will say Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy your festivities!

The story about the devil also suggests that people have no idea what they are really signing up for, so "gladly". 😉

Agree. That means a base with shared values. And knowing what his values are, it's absolutely scary.

The values of his base are avoiding all the values of the left. It’s not scary in the least bit. What’s scary is what’s waiting for our country if given over to the whims of the progressive left. THAT is why he has an unwavering base. It doesn’t have much to do with him. It has much more to do with not wanting the alternative.

It’s why when you rail on him for being an idiot about women’s suffrage, people like myself shrug and say “Well, that was dumb.” But it doesn’t change anything in the big picture and with scope of MUCH more important things hanging in the balance.

And he wants to be a dictator now? You sure Vector or Boo didn’t hack your account?

You seemed to (about 30 pages ago) acknowledge the real fear of what the left, socialism, cancel culture, and all the other insanity of progressives would do to our country, our constitution, and our individual liberties. That’s still the much bigger fear.

Case in point, Andy Ngo just got banned from twitter (temporarily at least) for posting ‘hateful conduct’ aka some statistics in response to a tweet from Chelsea Clinton. That is a teeny tiny glimpse of where the left can take us. And it’s a much more scary place than anywhere Trump is going.

Let's not forget what that garbage company has done for American democracy (and all around the world). If it disappears tomorrow, it's not too early. It has to do with bad corporate governance and greed, much more than the idiots on the left or right.

And while I may be concerned about some candidates from the left (based on what they have said), I know that Trump is evil (based on what he has done).

Ignorance (of history of autocracies, and not only) is not an excuse. Trump is deja vu to a lot of educated people (regardless of political leanings), hence the decreased support for Trump among the college-educated.

He's been eroding American democracy since he started running for presidency. If you can't see that, and you can't, Happy Thanksgiving and goodbye.

It also means there are people who wouldn't approve of him if he was objectively the best President of the past 30 years.

I suspect it's more people who don't like him but both like the alternatives even less and really want RBGs seat

I don't think that's the case. First of all because he's in a top spot in the race for worst president ever.

Also, every time I agree with something he said or did, within a week he does or says something that fixes that, big time.
