hey everyone--i'm trying to decide between these two programs for number one, and i keep changing my mind! i could really use any input you have. i know, i know, some would say it doesn't matter, they are both great programs, and i feel lucky to be in a position to even make this decision, but i want someone to level with me here.

basically, Wills seems like it's a little friendlier, it's in a great location, and it might be a little stronger clinically. however, i felt that the faculty and residents were very homogeneous (i am non-caucasian so maybe i'm just over-sensitive to that?), and it seemed like a very "social" program, meaning that if you don't like to go out and party and chat away at the cocktail parties, you might not fit in (i'm kind of a quiet and reserved person).

Wilmer is Wilmer, you can't beat the name, but it seems just a little less friendly, they seem to get just a little less volume, and the location is not as great.

am i wrong about any of this? i know i want to do a fellowship, so do you think there is any advantage of going to one over the other?

I would choose based upon where you think you'd fit best. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either one. If you have a specific fellowship in mind, try to get some info on the track record of recent graduates. Good luck!

A little friendlier????? What I liked about Wills was that they really cared about residents. 4 hours protected sleep time when you are on call, a month of lectures before you start, easing you into things rather than throwing you into the fire. The residents at Wills just seemed so happy and fresh. You can go into academics or private practice and no one pushes you either way. Great fellowships for those who choose to do one. You only train once.
I saw a variety of ethnicities at Wills....Maybe you were just exposed to the caucasian ones.

I agree with my classmate ophthoking above. 🙂
In my humble and single opinion, Baltimore is the place to be if you're single and want to stay single for the rest of your life.

I heard Wilmer is a very malignant place, and the residents are really unhappy. One resident quit a few months ago!

Has anyone else heard anything?

Why do you have to post the same thing in 3 threads? We get it, you really want to go to Wilmer and are trying to scare people away from ranking it highly.

Once again, I've heard great things about Wilmer, from friends that work in the Ophthalmology department that I trust. Great program. So great, in fact, that people create accounts on SDN to try and scare others away from ranking it highly.
