Hello, i am going to UCSF this fall, and was wondering how reliable/accessible the UCSF wireless network is. I was reading the wireless posts and it seems like these expensive wireless gadgets are useless in most universities. How does wireless work at UCSF?? I have sony pda with wireless technology. It would definitely be nice if I can access library journal, webmail, etc. at location of my choosing.

P.S. This webpage has been of great help! Thanks guys!!!!

Hey ucdbiochem, thanks for the link!!! I am using sony tj37. Very cool stuff! It comes with documents to go, camera, multimedia player, latest desktop, mem stick expansion, and wireless. Now I am sounding like a sony salesman.

Would a PDA be a better aquisition than a lap top? I Know they give us a 3,000 loan for a computer laptop.

Thanks!

Financial aid will provide you with one time loans for both a PDA and a computer, a laptop or desktop depending on your preference. Wireless access is very good at the library and MU. We recently got wireless access in the student lounge, so you can expect alot of students hanging out there.

A lot of my classmates bring their laptops to the library, download course notes, check e-mail, and listen to music while they are studying.

Oneday, my recommendation is to get a new computer just because you can do more stuff with it--access the internet, watch movies, download tons of stuff, and install some awesome but memory hungry softwares. There is only so much you can do with a PDA. Most students prefer to get the PDAs during their 3rd year, when they are preparing to go off to rotations.

Thanks neonam, I found a quote from Dell for a PDA and a laptop, so I'm going to get both.

🙂
