Oh no, not another supplement to do!

Got my email today :-D It both made and ruined my day all at the same time!

I suppose it's a good thing they give us a while to do it, since my next few weeks are looking a little busy!

Is anyone else having problems signing into Wisconsin's supplemental?

Me too! It doesn't seem that difficult. Essays that don't require much thought! I like it!

I just signed in.. the site might be overrun by people who just got the email signing in. Also, did you copy and paste your user name and password from the email?

I got the emails too. Are they sending out supplementals to all applicants or have they done a screening round?

the site was down for a few hours, but now it's back up.

supp apps are sent out to everyone.

quick question on the diversity section, questions 8 and 9. it asks what we listed as our first career choice in the vmcas essay. i don't remember putting a preference into what field i wanted to work in...trying to find it in the vmcas right now, and i'm having no luck.

can someone help me out with this?

:luck:

I had touched on my intended career path in my personal statement, but didn't list a "backup".
I guess I would just put what your top two choices are?

" Other Preparatory Experience
List and describe additional experiences, accomplishments and/or employment that you gained AFTER submitting your VMCAS application"

So...are we allowed to leave things blank? Nothing's really changed in the past six weeks. I've added vet hours, but that's about it...

I think the added vet hours are what they want.

Edit:Just realized you meant the second question not the first. Please ignore me

What did you decide? I'm struggling with the same question. Should I make a small statement explaining that I don't have anything new or leave it blank entirely?

I think it's best to say that that you haven't done anything new. That way they don't think you forgot to write something.

When I applied I just said I had x additional hours here and y additional hours there. I would definitely not leave it blank, but if you don't have much just keep it short and sweet.

You guys must be getting so excited. I'm excited for all of you! I can't wait until it's my turn! Good Luck:luck:

In response to reservoirdog's question: The supplemental application from Wisconsin is sent out to all eligible applicants. So as long as you meet the course and GPA requirements, they send you a supplemental invite.

I was very excited to receive my confirmation today, too! How exciting...hope to see you all in Madison Fall 2010!!

They actually send it out before they confirm your course requirements. I got the supplemental email the same time as everyone here, then I received an email yesterday saying that I didn't meet the English credit requirements. Luckily they just had glossed over the lit class I had already taken, so I just had to have the professor email them to fix the problem.

For the essay asking for anything new that's not vet related, think I can get away with a little blurb that basically says "At this time, I have been concentrating my time as working/volunteering. Please see the rest of my applications for details as to my continuing experience" ???

Either that, or I run out and try to find something new to do, but I really want to get this supp in ASAP!

I don't see anything wrong with that. I doubt every applicant will have something new to add to each section with only a month and a half duration since VMCAS.

I don't have anything new to add either...I think I'll just be adding a short blurb as *see application* because I put everything I could possibly think of down on that already!!

what are people putting for the "adverse circumstances" question. is it ok to just leave that blank?

i plan to leave that blank. it sounds like the explanation statement of VMCAS and i left that blank too

I'm explaining my first semester freshman year grades since my parents went through a NASTY divorce and it really ****ed my grades/my ability to cope with college etc... But thats it.

If it's asking about what you put in the essay, put down what your interests in vet med are that you wrote about in your essay.....

oops yea...i had forgotten that I wrote something like that in my essay...:banana::zip:

all the stuff that i did for the vmcas is long gone...+pity+

thanks!

BUMP!!

so i looked up the acceptances for wisconsin last year and they were all in feb!!! (reminder-no interviews) The earliest notification was feb 17 and the latest was feb 28, of course this is only SDN ppl i bet they still called people later.

I am SOO excited. wisc is def a reach for me but since i have had some surprises this year i still have hope! The biggest thing for me is their research and the 1 year mentorship/research you can do during your DVM, they also have a primate facility!!! I would really really like to see their campus too, i've heard that area is amazing. The only down side i can think of for wisc is OOS tuition and the icy cold weather in winter lol

anyone else have opinions? looking forward to the responses?

I'm not so hopeful as all my other OOS schools have been rejections but Wisconsin would be an awesome school to go to and Madison is a great town.

We can only hope😀

Also looking forward to hearing from Wisconsin. I'm expecting to know about my remaining three schools in the first 2 to 3 weeks of February. I'm going to be a nervous wreck! OOS tuition for me is only a plus since it's less than IS at Penn (boo, hiss, private school). It's pretty reasonable compared to most places, so I'd be totally okay paying it for 4 years. I would love to visit the school and area if I got an acceptance; the location and facilities are supposed to be amazing!

I'm excited (and nervous) to hear from Wisconsin too!

I went there for my (first) bachelor's degree, and ABSOLUTELY loved Madison and UW! And, the OOS tuition is REALLY cheap compared to other schools... so that's good. 🙂

I did get to see parts of the vet school while I was there, but at the time, I wasn't paying as much attention as I probably should have been. I have heard (from reading older threads on SDN) that one issue people seem to have when comparing UW to other schools is that the facilities are old. (Granted it has been 3 years since I moved from Madison, I do remember it looking old--but then again, most of UW's facilities were "old").

I'm looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say about UW's program. They don't "advertise" on their website very much.

I'm told their OOS tuition is about $25k, comparable to IS tuition at Davis, so it can't be nearly as bad as any other OOS schools you applied to. Plus, I be the cost of living is a lot lower there than it is in CA.

I'm sure the cost of living is cheaper than CA (from what I've heard, it doesn't get more expensive than CA), but I wouldn't say its cheap... When I lived in Madison, my fiance and I had a hard time finding pet-friendly apartments. We paid $1300 a month for a two-bedroom basement apartment that allowed cats. And an extra $100 for an outside parking spot behind our building.
You have to watch out for HUGE landlord associations (i.e., "Steve Brown Apts.", which will charge you as much as they possibly can) and landlords that don't maintain their properties (i.e., the slum-lords), who are willing to charge almost as much.

oo this is great to know!! thanks!

so i looked up how many OOS applicants they take, it says at most 20 but depends on the year. so assuming they give out 20 this year, our chance of being accepted is 2% if u look at the numbers last year. Although, we have to also assume that they had an increase in applicants because that is the trend. 🙁 i hope my supplemental was good! i wasnt really in the mood to do wisc's in november

Did anyone else pay for your supplemental fee with a check? My check has yet to clear the bank and I'm getting concerned. I've got delivery confirmation of their receipt, but they never cashed it. I emailed the office but haven't received a reply.

oo sry didnt write a check. but i would def call. i dont think it would be a bother because that is pretty urgent and even tho u got a receipt yikess wouldnt want something crazy to happen like it didnt actually get to them!! im sure it is fine though because they probably would have bothered you for money if they got your app but no check. so dont worry too much but i would call so you can ask the person instantly

Crittergal, I wouldn't stress out too much. UW-Madison is pretty good about calling when something is missing (I know they called me when they thought that a set of my GRE scores were missing--but it ended up being a mistake that the office staff was more than willing to correct AND call me back just to let me know if was taken care of.) For your own peace of mind, I might just call and ask what's going on with your check. But I don't think it will affect your application at all.

Does anyone know about an open house at UW-Madison? I know I'd like to visit before I make any decisions (if I'm lucky enough to have choices between schools). I'm sure that they would be more than willing to set-up individual tours, but one thing I like about interviewing (besides the actual interview, of course) is meeting other applicants and current students.

I sent them an email the other day checking on my transcripts and decided to ask when we could hear from them about admissions. Not only was Lynn super nice, but she told me to expect to hear anywhere from late February to early March. Its a bit of a wait but it is nice to get a straight answer from a school.

Yes, there is an open house for admitted students. I wasn't able to go last year but I heard it was great.

Regarding housing, I know a lot of people in my class have pets and I don't think people have had much trouble finding pet friendly housing.

Also, Lynn is just as sweet and awesome in person as she is by email and on the phone.

Good luck to everyone!

Got this email today:

"We hope that you are enjoying the new year! We are pleased that you have chosen to apply to the University of Wisconsin, School of Veterinary Medicine for the Class of 2014.

"This message is to provide you with an update on the progress of the admission decisions. Our admissions committee is in the process of selecting the class. We plan to notify you of the committee's decision by late February. We wanted to share the progress of our review with everyone and to inform you that our Open House for the invited applicants will be held on Friday, March 26, 2010 from 12:00-5:00pm."

Yup, had a mild heart attack when that popped up in my inbox.

Haha, same here. My eyes locked onto "We are pleased that you ... to the University of Wisconsin, School of Veterinary Medicine for the Class of 2014." At this point I'm probably definitely going to OSU, but it would be sort of rad to have the choice.

Same here. Got it a couple minutes before one of my classes and couldn't stop myself from clicking. I'm actually kind of glad it wasn't bigger news. I don't think I could have contained my joy/depression in front of my whole virology class....

🙄 I was just wondering if any other ISers received an email asking for additional information to determine residency? This was a couple weeks ago but I was just curious because no one else has mentioned it...

webeea06, I'm an ISer and I didn't receive an e-mail asking for additional information regarding my residency... did you move to WI recently, by chance?

No, actually I was born in WI and I've lived here my whole life. They asked for my parents information which I don't understand either because they were both born in WI and have never lived anywhere else. Strange...😕

I'm IS in Wisconsin as well and haven't heard anything other than the e-mail that everyone received a few weeks ago regarding acceptance/rejection letters. I hope everything gets worked out with your status, webeea06!

Based on the feedback on last year's thread, we should be getting phone calls and letters anytime in the next few weeks!! 🙂

Looks like we need to bump this thread as StormWarning got an acceptance call today👍
Anyone else get some WI love????

If I don't get good news from somewhere soon, I'm going to go absolutely bonkers.

My phone is charged, and attached to my hip. I'm just waiting... not so patiently now.
Come on, Wisconsin! Show me some love!!
