This may be a dumb question, but if I got an acceptance to UMDNJ and will definitely be attending there next year. So, how do I go about telling the other schools that I want to withdraw my application? Is emailing them ok? Also, I got another acceptance to LECOM-Erie, so do I turn that down by calling/emailing? Thanks for the help!

Rule of thumb. Do everything in writing. Write a letter and mail it and keep a copy for yourself. They understand and would rather you cancel an interview if you know that you will not be attending.

I presume writing a formal withdraw would be the most considerate thing to do. However, if you're definitely not planning on attending these schools and be VERY SURE you're not, then I suggest to just email them stating you want to withdraw your apps. This is what I did the last cycle. They're not going to blacklist you or anything. Just make sure you're confidant that you're not going cause once you withdraw, that's it.

Dear Medical School,

I thank you for your interest in my application. Unfortunately, after reviewing your credentials, I have decided to place you on my "alternate list".

This does not mean, however, that your school isn't qualified to teach medicine. There have been a record number of medical schools this year, many of which would be great places to learn medicine, but I'm afraid the number of seats I can fill is still capped at "1".

I wish you the best of luck in filling in your class.
😀

Joking aside, you can just send them a letter. E-mail might also be sufficient. And congrats on your UMDNJ-SOM acceptance 🙂 . It looks like a great school. I'm still waiting to hear their decision about my application.

Thanks so much for the help (and the lovely admissions committee rejection letter...haha). I'll just send out a letter to the schools. Thanks again!
