So here is the situation: I am currently in microbiology this semester (last semester of undergrad) and I currently have a D after our second exam. This is very unlike me because I have a 3.6 GPA and 3.5 sGPA and only one C on my transcript. I have just been busy with dental school interviews and other classes to really stay on top of things. None of the schools I applied to require microbiology so how bad would it look if I withdrew from it and took a "W"? I have already had 4 interviews and do not want them to accept me on Dec. 2 and then withdraw my acceptance after they see that I withdrew from microbiology. Any help with this situation would be great!

I would just stay in the course and test your luck. Try to pass with a C. Semester ends after 2nd week of December and they offer the acceptance December 2nd. It’d be better to stay in the class so schools can accept you before they see your semester grades.

Yes but I don’t want to end up with a D or an F and have them revoke my acceptance once I put in my grades. The last day to withdraw from a class is November 13th

I would essentially just see how it goes until that last day to withdraw. If you are able to get your grade up by then, you might be able to clutch it out and receive a decent grade. If not, you can withdraw. While not many of the schools require micro as a prereq, it will definitely be beneficial to you if you can complete the class as a lot of dentistry involves the oral microbiome.

did you put this course on your application as a planned course?

I would think hard before dropping it then.... Some schools take into consideration planned classes even if they are not pre-requisite.
Maybe unrelated but there was also someone on here on SDN a couple months ago who said they got their offer rescinded for not completing 50 hours of shadowing they had written on their application as planned even though they had a lot of shadowing hours before those.

Don’t drop it. Just fight through it and get a C or higher. It’s not impossible to do. Literally all you need is a C.
