So I have been accepted at two schools which I would rather go to than a certain school at which I have scheduled an interview. I think it's a good idea for me to withdraw from that school so that someone else who would really want to go there could. But, my dad went all crazy on me when I said that, saying that I should keep my options open as much as possible. What do you think? Is there any reason I should keep my interview spot at this school? If not, what should I write in my email to them saying I want to withdraw? Thanks so much!! (Parents can be so trying...)

If you know that you would rather go to one of the schools you were accepted at rather than one you still have an interview at, I agree that you should decline the interview. It's economical, efficient, conscientious and classy. When I declined two interviews, I think I emailed them something like this:

I am writing to inform you that I will be declining my interview on ____________, and that I would like to withdraw my application to ___________. If there are any other steps I need to take please let me know. I would also like to thank you for your time and consideration of my application.

Sincerely,

Phoenix.

If your interview is coming up soon, however (within the next two weeks), I would also call and let them know by phone as well, since some schools are bogged down and don't get to an email until a week after they received it.

Congrats on your acceptances!

Thanks for the advice and congrats on your acceptances as well 🙂

Yeah I'm with phoenix on the class part. You can just browse around this sight for a bit to see a small sampling of people without interviews. If you're sure you aren't going to the school it would probably give you some really great karma points to decline the interviews to give someone else another shot. It may come back when you're going for residency 😉
