Withdrawl of application letters

Since I've been accepted in state, I'm withdrawing my application from out of state schools. It seems wierd writing these letters because I've worked so hard on their secondaries, but I know that I would never attend them because of the difference in cost between out of state and in state.

Any advice?

I'm in a similar situation. Here's what I wrote:

RE: Application Withdrawal

Thank you for your time and consideration of my application to your medical school. At this time, I would like to request that my application is withdrawn, as I have been accepted for admissions at another medical school.

I wish you the best of luck with recruiting your incoming class!

I especially liked typing that last line after receiving rejections saying "best of luck with your future endeavors," as if they (or I) really cared.

I know it sounds snarky, but how about a line saying you have so many acceptances this year, you would like to say "yes" to each one but unfortunately cannot. Please keep me in mind if we should meet during the residency match process.

I remember reading that on my rejections last year!

I think I'll handle mine like they would handle me if the shoe was on the other hand. Just let 'em sweat it out wondering if I'm ever going to get in touch with them; Give them some of their own medicine, so to speak. 🙂

I remember reading somewhere that applicant etiquette is pretty important for your school. For example, if you are sure you do not want to attend a school, you should definitely write them - I know the tendency is to want to wait and see if you get in just for the heck of it - but if you are sure you would not go, it's probably best to withdraw. Besides freeing up time for admissions committees, it helps your college applicant image for future applicants. If all applicants from X University withdrew responsibly, then X University looks favorable in future application years. It's just the responsible thing to do.

I hang my head in shame. Especially because I *majored* in English. (sentence fragment used for emphasis, not poor grammer) Thanks for the catch. I caught that just after I posted, and was hoping no one would notice. I've changed it on my outgoing letters.
