Do schools care whether you have a "W" for a class...withdrawl? Like, would it be better to get a C+ or C or the W?

Also, if your school doesn't allow you to retake a C-, how do you get into the schools that don't accept a "C-" as a pre-requiste?

i think like med school they count W as an F on your gpa. It really depends on the school you are applying to. Also you can talk to your professor to give u a lower grade than C-, that way you can retake. I have never gotten into that situation before, but i see it all the time in the main office arguing and discussing about that. hope this helps

Oh, I had no idea some schools counted the "W" as an F. Does that apply to optometry schools as well? Also, does that mean the GPA that you submit and the GPA on your transcripts are void, because they recalculate the "W" into the GPA?

Thanks for your input.

that is what i heard from some of my friends that are interested in becoming a med student. In my opinion I think if you have a W, during your interview you will likely be asked to explain the reason behind the withdrawl.

Hi,

I got a W for orgo 2. I did horribly on the 2nd exam and knew it would be very difficult for me to get even a B in the course. I knew I could do better so I retook the course and got an A-. None of the schools I interviewed at asked about it.

When I used the online apps. to calculate my GPA, I didn't enter in the W. I don't think the W is taken into account during the calculation since you didn't actually retake the course and only withdrew from it.

Thanks so much. Yah, I'm in the same boat with ochem 3. So, I'll probably "W", and retake later on (if I even have to). Only some schools require ochem 3 so I'll put it as, an intend to take, for the schools that require it.

So, if I get into an opt. school that doesnt require it, I don't have to take it at all, and if I don't get into one of those, then I can take it after I apply to those schools that do require it. Can I do that?
