Hey all,

So I just scheduled my first interview (September, woo!), and I've done my research on what to wear and bought a killer suit outfit(Ann Taylor navy tropical wool, with a pink high-necked blouse to avoid cleavage and cordovan shoes/bag). The outfit looks awesome and I'm also getting it tailored to resolve some minor fit issues.

The problem is my hair. In a moment of impulsivity in December 2014 I chopped it into a pixie (so short! So little fuss in the morning!), and I only started growing it back out a year ago, so it's at the awkward "is it chin length? Is it shoulder length?" length. It looks kind of like this only less curly.

I can pull it back into a ponytail, but that requires a metric ton of bobby pins and generally looks terrible. If I wear it down, it's curly and huge, so I usually resort to either pinning the right side back to just get it out of my face or I get creative with headbands. The question is, what do I do for interviews? I presume my usual bobby pin thing isn't going to work, and I don't want to mess with it all day long trying to get it out of my face. Could I braid part of it? Is that unprofessional? I have no idea but just don't want it to mess up the work I put into looking professional.

Sorry if this is a repeat topic; I saw a couple threads on interview attire but all were over a year old and I didn't want to necrobump. Thanks in advance for your help!

Congrats on your interview! Can you pin it at the sides so it's half up/half down? Do whatever is easiest for you; you don't want to be stressing over it!

Just tried. Again, not possible without 40,000 bobby pins. I just am over this awkward phase, I want it to be either long or short! and Thanks! I'm so excited! 🙂

it probably wouldn't cost *that* much, but you could go to a stylist, let her know the dilemma, what you're going for, and that whatever she does needs to be simple enough for you to reproduce yourself, and it could surprise with awesome

the stylist will likely have ideas/techniques/products that no one here is gonna think of

I think this can run anywhere between $20-100 depending on who does it

Can you pin the sides back slightly just so the hair is out of your face but not so much that you have to use a million pins? Maybe something like this:

All good suggestions -- While the length might seem awkward to you, it's really not. And all you need is something that looks 'low maintenance' and is out of your face. So hairbands, barrettes, combs, braids, gels -- whatever it takes - all OK. Have you tried pulling just the front back and securing it with combs?

You've got a month and a half to play though - so plenty of time to get it right.

As long as it isnt purple or spiky you're fine.

Not purple or spiky, thank goodness.

I really like that!

I have a gold comb with some pearls on it....I've used it in the past to get my hair out of my face so I might try that first. It's the most secure comb I have.

Thanks everybody for your help!

I might try this if I can't figure out something at home. I feel like I've been hemorrhaging money from all my secondaries, so I'll probably get formal intervention if I turn out to be totally hopeless with hair.

Minimize embellishments on accessories.

I've seen above style on interview trail. I've also seen it just styled straight and tucked behind ear. Good luck!

I really wouldn't worry about it...wear it whichever way makes you feel the most comfortable. Being confident will help you way more than any specific hairstyle, trust.
