In the process of applying, do med schools care about your previous work experience? I have had a successful part-time position in sales and have devoted a lot of time from my past summers to this job, but do they care if it is not medically related?

Absolutely, write them in application. It doesn't matter if they are medically related; it will help your level of maturity in your application by holding some jobs. Even if you finish your applications and then get or change a job, update your application with a letter sent to the school.
