Hi there,
So recently I have changed career options from being pre-med to pre-dental. With that, I had a lot of other changes that came. I was supposed to start working at a research lab with a 2 year commitment, but now that my plans have changed, and I will be applying to dental school this year (which would only give me a year to work for them,) I had to decline the job offer.
I have had a job and worked at a medical office until January when I decided I did not want to go into medicine anymore. Since then, I have been taking some classes (6 unit health care interpreter program class and 2 unit immuno class that I actually took for p/np because I would have received a C otherwise) shadowing dentists, still involved with my pre-med surgery internship (which I am no longer going to be involved with soon, but I stayed in it because I am considering becoming an oral surgeon when I get into dental school. Of course, I would have to look at other options as well though) and have been studying for my DAT, which I will take within the next month or so. (I wonder how adcoms will look at this. Would I look like I didn't do much during this time?)
After my DAT's, I will be kind of stuck and I don't know what I will do. I can go back to my old lab and work as a volunteer but I need a paid job. I want to do something that will help my future career as a dentist.
I've sent out resumes to become a dentist front desk receptionist because I do not have a Dental Assistant license and I feel that the front desk is the only option that I am pretty much left with.
Should I still work as a front desk receptionist? How much exposure will that give me anyway? What are some jobs that past pre-dental students during their time off have taken? What kind of jobs SHOULD I be looking for?
