How (paid) hours do you work a week, while in school?

Ever since I started school I have been working at least 20 hours along with the full time schedule. I hate it, and can't wait until I can manage to either not work at all, or just a few hours, so can have more time to study, and a bit for myself at the end of the week. Just curious as to who else works and has a full schedule of labs and all, and maybe have any advice on how you best manage your time. I find that after work, the last thing I want to do is study, and it certainly has made it's mark on my grades.

Hello McBat,

First things first---drop the social media like FaceBook and Twitter. Heck I could even throw in SDN in as well. These things do drain lots of time.

Second--have you explored shifting your job maybe? I know many people who worked on campus and would just do HW there--is that an option?

I was actually working in the micro lab for a few months, which was great for the reason you mentioned, but was disqualified due to my parents making too much money. Worst thing about it was it was like, the second week of school, and I had scheduled all my classes around that, so am now stuck with all these gaps that I could have condensed and worked at my other job.

I feel your pain, I have doing the same throughout school and I'm close to graduation. I consolidated my work schedule during weekends. This has worked perfectly for me because I study during the week along with other ECs.

Last year i used to work 20hr/week with school and research lab. Couldn't stand it. This semester i dropped to 10hr/week and it's been so much better.

However, there are people out there that work 40hr/week, do multiple ECs, are a full time student, and have kids... MASS respect to those people. I think it's a little bit different though since most of those people are non trads who have "settled down." I think it's a little different if you're a 20 year old pre med and all your peers are having fun.

Are your parents able to lend you some money so you don't have to work? Like someone above said, i would also try to find a job where you can do some HW (front desk in a dorm, school's gym, etc.)
