Hi,

So I'm worried about my chances. I'm not sure if I can get an acceptance so I'd appreciate all advice. Thanks in advance!

I'm applying as an economically disadvantaged student. I live in PA but I go to an NJ school. Here are my stats:

cGPA: 3.23 sGPA: 3.08 (as calculated by AACOMAS)
MCAT: 26--7 PS 9 BS 10 VB
I've volunteered at a doctor's office for over 100 hours.
I've shadowed M.D and D.O, both family practice for over 30 hours. I received letters of rec from all.
I've been involved in chemistry research (my professor wrote an amazing LOR for me!)
Besides that, I've been working on and off during my time in college and I've been involved in 2-3 clubs for EC's. I've gotten amazing letters from all my professors.

I got a secondary invitation back from Rowan so far, but that's about it. Any advice?

Edit: I just recalculated my sGPA again. Only the newest courses count towards the GPA and i got a C the first time in orgo 1 and a B the next time. That way my new sGPA comes out to 3.08 instead of the original 2.99 I posted.

I can tell you straight off the bat that you will receive several waitlist/rejections from the DO schools you applied to due to your low sGPA. Several schools in your list may even auto-reject you because they have a 3.0 sGPA cut off. I would say forget about CCOM-Midwestern and any of the Touro colleges. I also feel you should apply to Marian as an additional safety school. Maybe try contacting the schools admissions offices and ask them if the 2.99 sGPA will be a issue, they are usually very frank and honest about these matters. If it's not a issue, don't worry about it.

Don't give up hope, if you submit at least 10-15 DO secondaries, I think you should receive some interview invites.

Your mcat subsection scores don't add up to the mcat score you posted lol

Worst case scenario you can retake any classes you got an F, D or C in and nail them. Then the new grade will replace the old grade and your gpa will go up! Your mcat score, whether a 26 or 27, I think will definitely get you some love from some DO schools if you apply broadly enough.

I am pretty sure CUSOM has a 3.2 cut off and so does VCOM is there a way to take a class and bring up sgpa if not maybe call admissions and see if they screen I wish you the best in the cycle

Ahh my bad! I was hoping I'd get at least an 8 so bad that I posted it wrongly. It's actually a 7 on the PS and I got a 26.

Edit: Wait, I just recalculated my GPA. I had a C in orgo 1 my first time. I retook it and I got a B. Does that B replace the C completely? When the C and the B were there, my gpa was a 2.99. But if that B replaces it completely (as in I don't count the C at all in my calculations), my GPA jumps to a 3.07. Am I correct in that or.....?

Since my application is submitted and verified, I don't see my GPA on their website. When I originally inputted my grades, the calculator showed 2.99 as my science GPA. I've retaken Organic Chemistry 1 and inputted that into the application. The first time, I got a C and the second time, I got a B. When I calculate my GPA on paper with the C grade included, my GPA comes out to a 2.99, but when I replace that with just the retake grade (a B), my GPA comes out to a 3.08. I just looked at the AACOMAS manual in detail too and it says " Only the last instance of a repeated course is included in the GPA calculation." I assume that before verification, the aacomas calculator didn't take into account that I had repeated a course. That's from what I understand...

Ohh, NOW I see it. Thanks for that! It's a 3.08 for my sGPA.
