I just wanted to start a little something up with you guys that I thought would be a little fun.

What's the worst gpa & DAT score you ever saw where an applicant still managed to get his/her foot in the door of a dental school?

Marion

I have an associate of a friend matriculating in this fall with a DAT of

15PAT 16AA 14TS GPA 3.2 Bio major

Is this insane or what???!!!!!

Marion

wow that's outrageous...

I know of one classmate of mine that had 16P, 17A, but her father donated $50K to the school. so there you go.

i know someone who got into d-school with a 2.6 GPA, 16 AA, and a $500,000 check from daddy

🙄

When exactly can you tell them you have that kinda money to donate??

$50 grand donation? Sounds like there were other factors, or possibly "favors," that were more important in the admission. $50k is pennies to a big institution; the $500k donation sounds more like a shoe-in admission.

wow ....50k??? I wonder if I got a loan from the bank and donated 50k if I could get an acceptance!! haha...

Yeah, you're not lying at all. I understand where you're coming from.

50k is a lot to any student and a considerable amount to most people, but most schools are charging 35k x 65 students x 4 years

i actually got curious after typing that out.. its over 9mil/graduating class

50K is not that much considering the amount of tuition...

and many people earn more than that for one year of full time work...

My question is though, at what point do you hand over a check? Are you like here's my application and instead of the $70.00 app fee I decided I'd make it $500,000.00.

Now that's funny....

I'm getting a lot of emails from a people telling about some crazy scores of students getting an acceptance.

Check this out: 15/12/15 gpa2.97

This is ridiculous!!!

Look at Meharry and Howards average scores. The AVERAGE is 15-16. This means that some would have to be accepted with scores higher than this and LOWER.

Come out of the closet guys! Who has the lowest?

I got in with a 15 quantitative reasoning

Corolla, you know you're my partner and I understand where you're coming from, but look at the year that you went into d school. Scores should not be this low b/c of application processes being so competitive. I was talking to guy in the medical school forum that went to dental school prior to entering into med school and he got a 14 on the orgchem and still get into Kentucky.

Marion

Hmmmm, define partner...

j/k

It was still competitive when I applied. Granted it has become more competitive and I think I got a little lucky, but you can't argue with my skillz. I applied just one cycle ago. May 2006.

Yeah, but you still had a pretty high gpa and AA/TS!!

I was average. Like I said, I think I got a little lucky. 3.3 science and non science. 18 AA, 21 PAT.

I had shadow hours and some work experiance. No research, and 1,000 posts on SDN.

There is a guy at Temple who comes here and reads what people write. If he reads this he knows who I am talking about. He was a big part of it. Thanks man!!!

Dang I wish I could make a check for $0.5 million, I guess I could get in for sure than!

I know 50K isn't much, but when you look at a class with 150 students and an applicant is borderline avg....then 50K would be the deal breaker. Granted, not 50K alone, the person that i was talking about had legacy ties.

This was '05 cycle. I cannot recall the school... but if I had to make an educated guess I would say UT or Kentucky. I really don't remember. And no, the applicant was not a minority. It happened to be a white-female. Surprising, huh!!😱

She happens to be a really close friend.

Marion

yep my friend's dad donated $1 million to UOP and got in

how do you let them know you intend on donating in exchange for a seat? is it an under the table wink wink sorta thing?

How does that work? You're "really close friends" but you don't even know what state she went to dental school? Something doesn't smell right... 🙄
