Worth it to add 18hrs of DO shadowing to apps now?

I have 700 hours of clinical experience plus 50 hours of shadowing (some with an orthopedic surgeon, some withthe attending at a federally funded hospital). All with MDs. Would a little DO shadowing help my app or would it come across poorly to contact adcoms to add it in now?

I don’t think it would really be worth it unless you are getting a letter of rec, which it may be a little late in the game anyway. If your cycle hasn’t been going well it may be worth if you are planning on reapplying

Schools do not have a time to review and re-review so apps should be optimum when first submitted. If you don't get in this cycle it will be a great addition and some schools may be happy to take the update. Those schools that get thousands and thousands of apps may not be as receptive. If you are still submitting to new schools then definitely add it.

This is one of those few "in progress" updates that I am OK with. Our wily old Admissions dean drops bon mots like this on candidates when we discuss them in Adcom meetings
ie,

WOAD: "Aimtosneeze just sent me a note that s/he has shadowed Dr Jane Jones for 18 hours."
