Worth it to send out some new primaries?

Is a Mid November primary too late for a reasonable shot at DO Schools?

So I sent out 14 school apps. Got secondaries back for every one of them, but I'm in "Still Pending" hell right now.

I know we're late in the cycle, but do you think its still worth it to send out some primaries for schools I didn't initially apply to? Or is it a bit too late...

I think I'm going to add one more school on my app as well (complete early June).

Think it depends on how competative your app is but I say do it if you have the funds, a good app and your school list is loaded with schools which are very competative to get into. Edit.

Depends on your stats and on the schools that you're thinking of applying to. While you don't have the advantage of applying early on your side anymore, you're also not terribly late either. There are people who apply after January and still get in. Not saying that it's likely to happen, but it does happen for many people each cycle.

If you've got the money to spare, dropping a couple hundred extra this cycle will be worth it for a shot to start med school next year. Apply and maybe get a couple of interviews; don't apply and you won't hear back from any of those schools you were thinking of. Anyway, if you're considering it and have some extra money lying around I would definitely add on a couple of more schools. Obviously the sooner the better. AACOMAS will most likely receive a flood of applications in about a month or so from MD applicants who aren't expecting to get in to any MD schools this cycle.

If you are already accepted and can spare the cash, it is worth the gamble.

I sent out extra apps late september last year..in the end it was a waste of money. what're your stats?

I'm shocked at the poll. I don't think many people are answering this question honestly. YES, APPLY, "LATE" for DO SCHOOLS IS JANUARY!
Most schools are no where near 50% class size complete. Most of the competitive schools have barely begun interviewing/accepting candidates. You're fine.

As long as the application is somewhat competitive, this is true. For a non-competitive application (<3.3 GPA, <26 MCAT combined), it is a bad time to finish.

Oh yes, this is true. I agree.
But for anyone with 3.5GPA+ with 28+MCAT, I even think December/January would be okay. Not early or late, but okay. Except for maybe a handful of competitive schools.

I also want to just add that, I humbly predict, that this luxury will disappear in the next few cycles.
AZCOM is already very public about not sending out an II to anyone with a sub 30 MCAT, irregardless of GPA.
DO schools are becoming more and more competitive every year and, I predict, in the next 5 years, many of the older schools will have closed doors after Christmas. But, for this cycle, a complete app in December/January for a 28+MCAT and 3.5+GPA should be more than okay.

As long as the amount of applications continue to rise, this could be possible.

But I'm applying late, which is a concern. Being late is a big deal. But I guess November isn't late.

Depends on when you get secondaries from the schools. I would say if you can't be complete by December, then it is too late. It usually takes on average, 6 weeks to receive an interview invite after completion, and if you're interviewing in February or later, it would be for waitlist spots. Also, take into consideration the holidays and vacation days for the adcoms during Thanksgiving and Christmas break.

You have good stats. When were you complete at the other 14 schools?

I'm not complete at the other 14 schools. I've got 5 secondaries still due, but got pneumonia and was hospitalized. **** happens. Not really losing sleep Over it.

But I've gotten most secondaries done between late october to now.

Apply to as many as you can afford in the morning. Smart apps and you will be in this year
