Hi all! I have a question regarding whether it is worth it to start and submit and application right now. I took my DAT this week, and my parents are really pushing me to just do applications, in the chance that I get in somewhere. Is it worth it? Will it look bad if I don't get in and reapply next year with the same DAT?? Don't get me wrong, they are pushing me to apply this year instead of next, not pushing me to apply as a whole. I defintely 100% want to go to dental cshool, and am just wondering whether or not applying right now is too late!

I am from Ohio. Schools I am interested in include OSU, UPitt, Boston, UoP, Temple, maybe a couple others. Is it worth it? Also, I don't believe that I will be able to get a committee letter at this time. I hadn't even thought about it, but after having given it thought, I am interested in applying, if it is a good idea.

What do you think? I called my pre-med advisor.. and she said she does not know much about Dental School. (BIG HELP!)

My GPA is about a 3.2 (Nothing below 3.5 my Soph and Junior year). My DAT is
PAT 20
RC 24
QR 18
Bio 20
GChem 18
Orgo 22
AA 20
TS 20

Do I have a chance applying this late at any of those schools? MY TOP Are OSU, UoP And Boston.

Thanks for the help in advance. I don't really know anyone personally who can give me advice.

do you have asian parents lol my parents (asian) are thinking of the craziest hypothetical situations if i applied this year and i havent even taken my DAT yet. I like you do not have a committee letter yet and probably wouldnt be able to get one since its pretty late. Thats why I am choosing to hold off for a year unless I get really crazy scores. If you have financial resources and u submitted it ASAP you would probably get interviews since you have a nice DAT and upward trend that is just my opinion...

Yeah, I'm indian, and the oldest girl inmy family. So they want me to look good. Don't get me wrong, this is what I WANT to do (they of course want me to go to med school). But, I actually do want to apply now...but one of my top schools (boston) i think requires a committee letter. I think. Don't think OSU does.

I am so confused!

I'm indian too, so i know how you feel haha. I'm also the oldest boy so I definitely dont have it as bad as you. I just checked, Boston requires a committee letter if your school has one. Why is Boston U one of your top choices?

wow I just submitt my application, your post is really makin me nervous ha

There are people who do submit late into october, november, or even december. Your chances are much lower than if you had submitted in the summer... but your chances of getting accepted will be MUCH higher than if you never submitted at all. 😉

Do you want to gamble?

Just apply, geez! You'll get later interviews, you'll sit thru more worries about getting in, but you'll get in later in the process.

OK GUYS. You convinced me. I'm going to haul as* and get my **** in ASAP.. is there an official deadline?
Any tips on schools I should apply to? I know I can't to Boston which I'm pretty upset about...
OSU, UoP, Temple, Case....

My GPA is low... so schools that are OK with that... (+ trend with decent DAT... dental experience... volunteer... etc...)

Upitt?? WVU?? VCU?? NYU?? Anyone know schools that don't require a committee letter?

PS ... when you call schools... what number do you call to get good info?? Just the admission people.

Oh my so much to do now! I'm so nervous!!

As far as I know schools in Boston don't require a committee letter. At least BU and Tufts don't. Check their websites or call them.

most schools don't REQUIRE a committee letter although they prefer them -

most of em will take 2 science profs + 1 non-science/dentist/other

Here is the link to BU.
"The Admissions Committee requires three evaluations by senior faculty members, at least two of whom should be in science departments. If the applicant's college or university has a premedical or predental advisory committee, its composite evaluation is required. A letter of recommendation from a dentist mentor is requested, if the applicant has dental shadowing experience. "

I never heard committee letter is mandatory. Some schools recommend it if your school has a pre-health advisor or committee, but mostly it's just one of the options.

I feel so frantic!! Is all I have to do is fill out AADSAS? Then I'm done?? My advisor said, "Yes. I am pretty sure." Once again, big help! I have a feeling it depends on the school... how many rec's..

Where does it say how many essays you write and such? Or is the personal statement it??

AH!

Fill AADSAS, send transcript to them, get 3 LORs, one personal statement, take DATs, submit

Bookmark the sites for AADSAS and the secondaries. There is one "major" essay on the AADSAS app and some schools require short essays as part of their secondaries. I would get to work on the PS right away. GL

goodluck!
I won't be submitting until Mid-september at earliest if that makes u feel any better.

Go Bucks!!

Hey fellow Ohioan...it's like the tail end of the application process as September is rolling around. But if you can get your stuff in pronto...then by all means apply.

Whether you apply early or late...you will simply have to wait.

DATs are good for 2-3 years. So you can always wait until next year too.

Every year, the applicants will pile up from the last cycle, and so you'll get a wild mix of old and new people with each cycle. The last couple of years has been EXTREMELY competitive. So plan it carefully.

Anyways, you can always email me if you're interested in getting info. about OSU.

Maybe I'll see you around campus during your interviews or something.

Good luck!
