Do you think it is worthwhile to take orgo during the summer? The reason I ask is if I do that, I can go on take biochem next year so that by next summer(2005) when I hope to be applying and taking the DAT I will have all the prereqs and biochem done.
Do you think I am needlessly rushing it? The other option is taking orgo next year and then take the DAT since I will have done all the prereqs and then use up one year(since DAT is valid for 2yrs) to get all the recommended courses to show and then apply.

Some of you people know the situation that I'm in since I mentioned by mediocre grades going into the predent requirements.

I really don't know what position you are in, cause I didn't read those posts of yours.

Anyway, I know people that haven taken organic in the summer, and have done good. My opinion is that grades are not everything. If you are going to take biochemistry, you are gonna have to have a good foundation of organic. If you just slide through everything, then biochemistry is going to be a pain in the butt. It's not impossible, but I'm not sure if you want to do that.

I haven't taken biochemistry yet, but I am taking organic now. I will take my DATs this summer. I think this is the better route (atleast for me). When you rush things, you tend to screw yourself over.

Besides, why do you want to rush it so much? A prereq course that I think is ok to rush through and take it in summer would only be Physics. The rest of the courses I think are kind of important for the DAT.

I'm not sure if i was any help... sorry 🙁

Thanks for your input.
I had a hunch that rushing is not a good idea but I wanted to get second opinions. The reason why I was asking there are schools that require Biochem as a prereq. Maybe I should take an extra year but that will be a year after I take the DAT.

What is your major? Do you need to take biochem? If it is necessary for your major, then I suggest take only organic chem. in the summer. Devote all your attention to ochem, because it is important for the DAT and biochem. Taking biochem before the dat will also help a little in the biology section of the dat as well. I think good grade in prereq are important, because these are the same classes every predent need to take. If you do better in the same class that everyone else had take that will be a very big plus. So, put all your effort into organic no matter which time you take it.

There were some really good treads about how to succed in ochem about 3 months ago in this forum. I think these tread could help you be quit successful.

I'm post bac.
The reason why I ask is that If I continue taking courses at the rate I'm going I'll finish the prereqs and take the DAT but still be out of the running for certain schools that require biochem(like Tufts). I'd have to spend another year before I apply (using up one year of DAT result being valid). So if I accelerate it with Ochem in the summer I'd take Biochem with Biology and take the DAT giving me the greater number of schools that I could apply.
